About the Job
We have an exciting opportunity in our Monroeville Office for a passionate and motivated project manager to join our growing solid waste engineering team. As a Solid Waste Engineering Project Manager for Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC), you'll be involved in the design, analyses, permitting, and preparation of drawing/technical specifications for solid waste disposal facilities, including coal combustion residual (CCR) facilities and industrial facilities. Interacting with clients, contractors, and local government officials, you’ll impact the entire project from conceptual to design to regulatory permitting and review process, and then bidding and construction. You will be responsible for working in a team environment in which you will be leading younger staff and mentoring them, reviewing their work, and collaboratively delivering projects.
Projects will involve completing engineering tasks such as airspace, excavation, and fill volume calculations, preparation, review and compilation of technical reports, stormwater management system design, landfill grading, and leachate and landfill gas collection system design. You will assist our waste management clients by providing day-to-day operational support, as well as manage Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) for landfill cell, final cover and gas system expansion construction projects. You will also assist our engineering team with site development and geotechnical engineering projects. You will interact with CEC office and field staff, clients and contractors and your efforts will be part of the overall completion of design/permitting, construction and certification projects.
In this role, you will be involved in:
- Designing, analyzing, permitting and preparing drawings, narratives, and technical specifications and construction project services for solid waste management facilities.
- Developing permit application documents, contract drawings, specifications and estimates for landfills, transfer stations, landfill gas to energy facilities, and recycling facilities.
- Directing field investigations and performing slope stability analyses.
- General civil/environmental engineering duties, including grading and hydrology.
- Designing various aspects of landfills, including:
- Single and Double composite liner systems;
- Leachate conveyance and storage facilities;
- Stormwater conveyance and storage facilities;
- Landfill gas collection/treatment systems; and
- On-site roadways, and ancillary buildings and structures.
- Develop permit application documents, contract drawings, specifications and estimates for landfills, transfer stations, landfill gas to energy facilities, and recycling facilities.
- Review of projects for compliance with plans/specifications.
- Ability to interact with clients and managing projects.
- 5-10+ years experience in the design, permitting, document preparation and CQA of waste disposal facilities;
- Ability to coordinate the regulatory agency review process;
- B.S. in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering (M.S. a plus);
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensure or ability to sit for exam within two (2) years;
- Ability to use CADD and Civil 3D;
- Strong project management skills and leadership ability;
- Strong oral and written communication skills with demonstrated report and proposal writing skills;
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office;
- Understanding of business principles of consulting projects and related project delivery tools; and
