The Opportunity
Mass General Brigham Digital, in partnership with the Office of the Chief Medical Officer (OCMO), is seeking an experienced Solutions Architect who has a passion for healthcare data and will thrive as a member of an experienced, high performing and highly motivated team. This person will have a desire to learn and a flexibility to adjust to the fast-changing analytic and reporting demands of our system. The best candidate has solid analytical and communication skills, and experience working with health care data.
Reporting to the Sr. Manager of Solutions Architecture, the Solutions Architect will be a member of a cross-functional team responsible for developing new clinical data products. The OCMO areas of focus include Quality, Safety, Health Equity, Community Health, Patient Experience, Provider Wellbeing, Credentialing, and Pharmacy and Formulary.
The ideal candidate will function as a technical leader of the OCMO cross-functional domain teams, providing technical guidance and fostering a culture of learning and growth. They will spearhead the architectural design of OCMO data products, ensuring it aligns with established principles, address any bottlenecks to enhance velocity and data quality, and develop advance knowledge of OCMO domains. The role involves developing comprehensive architectural documentation, leading reviews and discussions to promote continuous improvement. The candidate will also oversee the training of engineers in architectural design principles and tools, accrue advanced knowledge of OCMO product domains, and maintain a high-level understanding of the data and analytic landscape at Mass General Brigham.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Functions as a Technical Lead overseeing the OCMO cross-functional domain teams; providing technical leadership and mentorship to team members, developing data products, and partnering closely with the Domain Team Lead to understand prioritization and product requirements.
- Fosters a culture of learning and growth within the development team, providing feedback, coaching, and mentoring to team members. Builds trust and collaboration among the team and across other domain teams.
- Leads the end-to-end architectural design of OCMO data products and other related platform capabilities ensuring alignment with existing design principles; identifies bottlenecks impacting our velocity and quality of our data and proposes strategies to overcome them.
- Works with the domain teams to develop the high-level and low-level architectural documentation, including diagrams, design patterns, and technical specifications.
- Stays current with industry trends, emerging technologies and large-scale system architecture, integrating relevant advancements into the work.
- Comfortable rolling up your sleeves, getting involved, and diving into delivery challenges.
- Oversee training of data engineers and analytics engineers on architecture design principles and tools to build up architecture expertise within the team.
- Accrues advanced knowledge of the OCMO product domains and can quickly apply development strategies to meet the stakeholder requirements for data products.
- Builds and maintains a high-level understanding of the data and analytic landscape at Mass General Brigham including data sources, data and analytic assets and products, analytic tools and software, and master data.
- Presents technical solutions designs to OCMO development teams and other MGB Digital team members as needed.
- Supports other team members with promotion to production and ensures a consistent process across the team.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, informatics, statistics, or related field and an interest in healthcare and the use of technology to support clinical care.
- 3+ years of experience as an Analytics Engineer, Data Engineer, or similar role.
- 1-3 years of experience with data modeling.
- Proficiency in querying complex data structures using SQL is required.
- Experience working with cloud data platforms such as Snowflake, Azure Synapse, Amazon Redshift, etc.
- Epic Proficiency or Certification in Clarity / Caboodle data model or Epic applications is strongly preferred; Epic experience is required.
- Experience implementing scalable ETL/ELT pipelines and transforming and modeling workflow tools, such as DBT or Informatica.
- Experience with general source control principles and implementing CI/CD pipelines.
- Working knowledge of traditional data warehousing and cloud data warehousing concepts.

- Excellent interpersonal skills, including strong customer service orientation and the ability to translate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Possess strong data modeling skills
