Sous Chef - Farm-to-Table Restaurant
We are seeking a dedicated and talented Sous Chef to join the culinary team at a renowned farm-to-table restaurant located in a picturesque New England setting. The Sous Chef will work closely with the Executive Chef to ensure the highest standards of food preparation, quality, and presentation, while assisting in managing day-to-day kitchen operations. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate individual who thrives in a collaborative environment and has a deep appreciation for fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Executive Chef in planning, developing, and executing seasonal menus that highlight local, sustainable ingredients.
- Supervise and coordinate kitchen staff activities, ensuring that all dishes are prepared according to the restaurant’s standards of quality and presentation.
- Oversee food preparation during service, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and timeliness of all orders.
- Manage inventory and assist in sourcing ingredients from local farmers and suppliers.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and organization in the kitchen, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Train, mentor, and develop kitchen staff to maintain a high level of performance and teamwork.
- Assist in controlling food costs and minimizing waste through effective inventory and portion control.
- Work collaboratively with the front-of-house team to ensure seamless service and an outstanding guest experience.
- Step in to lead the kitchen during the Executive Chef’s absence.
- Stay up to date on culinary trends, techniques, and ingredients to contribute creative ideas for new dishes.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in a professional kitchen, preferably in a farm-to-table or fine dining setting.
- Proven experience in a leadership role, such as Sous Chef or Lead Line Cook.
- Strong understanding of cooking techniques, food safety regulations, and kitchen operations.
- Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- A passion for using fresh, seasonal ingredients and creating innovative, high-quality dishes.
- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to motivate and manage kitchen staff.
- Culinary degree or equivalent experience preferred.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
