Local CFR teams are required by IC16-49 in all Indiana Counties and the Division of DFP supports the teams throughcoordination; working with community leaders to maintain and enhance theirreview teams, developing partnerships with child health and safetyorganizations; and implementation of CFR team recommendations in order toprevent child mortality and morbidity.The SCFRC will serve as one of three program liaisons--Northern, Central andSouthern-- for the Division of Family Health Data and Fatality Prevention (DFP);and Indiana community stakeholders. The SCFRC will work in Southern Indiana, toassist with monitoring the progress of the IDOH’s priorities and DFP’sobjectives, and assist with the creation and maintenance of CFR infrastructure.This will include technical support of local CFR teams, building networks of DFPpartnerships and with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of programs.The SCFRC will assist local CFR teams and community partners to promoteprevention messaging and practice throughout Indiana. This may include assessingcommunity strengths and identifying gaps in services, assisting withcollaboration efforts, and making recommendations to the DFP division directorfor strategic program planning.DUTIESAssist with the creation of an infrastructure and communication network forfatality review teamsAssist in the coordination of Child Fatality/Fetal-Infant Mortality meetingsAssist with the administration of the electronic data collection system used bythe local CFR teams and the statewide CFR committeeAssist in the coordination of the statewide CFR committee activities, meetings,data collection and report assemblyEstablish collaborative relationships/partnerships with potential partners thatcould include bothpublic and non-profit agencies as well as individuals within the community.Develop a regional training network to support and facilitate local and regionalinitiatives in order to strengthen fatality review and prevention effortsAssist with data collection through local fatality review teams and othersCollaborate with DFP team members and participate in statewide reviews, advancedreviews and SUID Subcommittee reviews, when applicable.Assist with maintaining records, as needed.Complete a quarterly report of program activitiesPerform other duties as assigned.Support and promote DFP initiativesMaintain positive relationships with community partnersHelp guide local and State teams to make appropriate recommendations for eachfatality that is reviewedHave a basic understanding of the Department of Child Services PoliciesHave a basic understanding of medical terminologyProvide each local county an up to date vital record list as neededAttend all Child Fatality Review Team meetings in the Southern Indiana Regionupon invitationAttend appropriate community meetings as neededBe aware of local and state resources this can include prevention strategies forfamilies and childrenChampion an equity-driven approach to program improvementRESPONSIBILITYBecause of the independent nature of the work, incumbent bears theresponsibility for maintaining a high level of work ethic, personalaccountability, and initiative.Incumbent also will have represent IDOH/DFP to the community partners andtherefore has the responsibility to demonstrate professionalism when workingwith diverse communities.Incumbent exercises extensive judgment and creativity to adapt agency’s goalsand procedures. Incumbent must develop programs and policies to handle new orunusual situations that impact upon the program area and ultimately the entireagency.Incumbent investigates and maintains comprehensive datasets of fetal, infant,and child death and informs leadership about new deaths.Inappropriate decisions or delays in completing assignments may affect federalgrant requirements and monetary disbursements. Releasing inaccurate orconfidential information to staff, the public, or other agencies can causepotential loss of federal grant money, legal action, embarrassment to theagency, and undesired focus of media's attention if statewide data do not meetnational standards and are therefore excluded from national statisticalpublications.DIFFICULTY OF WORKThis position requires significant attention to detail and the ability to workwith internal and external partners. The incumbent must also be able to resolveproblems, logically develop ideas, interpret policy, and have superb oral andwritten skills. Because of the nature of the work, the incumbent needs to havethe ability to keep confidentiality. Incumbent will be indirectly exposed todifficult subject matter including details related to child mortalityPERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPSIncumbent represents IDOH/DFP to numerous internal and external partnersstatewide and advises Division Director on matters of major impact to ensureconformity with agency priorities..
