Sterile Processing Tech I
Central Sterliization
The Sterile Processing Tech I Tech processes and prepares equipment and supplies for patient care use. Cleans and/or sterilizes equipment and supplies for all user departments using the current approved cleaning and sterilization techniques.
Responsibilities
+ Cleans and decontaminates surgical instruments and other medical equipment following established policy and procedure.
+ Inspects assembles packages and sterilizes medical devices following manufacturer's recommendations and established procedure.
+ Demonstrates a working knowledge and understanding of the principles of sterilization asepsis infection control and universal safety precautions.
+ Understands and utilizes department logs or computers to document the processing steps. Use of hospital instrument tracking systems in all designated areas.
+ Disassembles cleans or decontaminates surgical instruments per manufacturer's recommendations including but not limited to ultrasonic cleaning.
+ Maintains supply levels of all items required for daily used supplies and effectively communicates with those responsible for ordering.
+ Promotes ensures and improves customer service to all internal and external customers. Able to work collaboratively with others.
+ Ensures quality of department products. Attends and actively participates in staff meetings and follows all department policies and procedures.
+ Independently operates decontamination equipment in Sterile Processing.
+ Completes daily assignments planning and organizing work in order to be finished at the end of the shift. Demonstrates initiative by assisting others when personal assignment is completed.
+ Peel pack instruments needed for surgery and assemble simple sets (complex 1-3) and L&D sets as directed by department leadership. (i.e. ER CCU Cath Lab).
+ Demonstrates a working knowledge and understanding of the principles of sterilization asepsis infection control and universal safety precautions.
+ Effectively communicates both written and verbal with co-workers and supervisory staff as necessary to ensure effective functioning of operating room activities.
+ Establishes and maintains professional cooperative interpersonal relationships with other staff members physicians patients patient family members and the public as appropriate while assuring confidentiality of all patient information.
+ Prepares case carts as needed.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
+ One year technical operating/instrument room experience in sterile processing preferred.
+ Prior large Hospital/acute care experience preferred. GI experience preferred.
+ High School Graduate or equivalent required.
+ Certification in sterile processing preferred.
+ Current AHA BLS card required.
+ Fire Card (within 90 days of hire) required.
+ Central Service Technician certification (CRCST) preferred.
+ Knowledge of specialty instruments and thorough knowledge of disinfecting and sterilization procedures required.
This position is represented by SEIU-UHW and is covered by the terms and conditions of the collective bargaining agreement.
Pay Range
$24.30 - $30.54 /hour
