Candidates must have, or be able to obtain, a Wisconsin DPI-issued Special Education Program Aide license for the 2024-2025 school year.
JOB SUMMARY: The role of the educational assistant is to provide direct student and staff support in all learning environments. Special Education EAs may do the duties listed below.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Must be able to work effectively with students including those with mild to severe physical, emotional or cognitive special needs
- Must be able to assist with student needs including medical maintenance and personal hygiene needs
- Must be able to manage difficult student behaviors
- Must be able to assist disabled students in movement throughout the building with safe and effective practices
- Must be able to effectively communicate with teachers, students and other staff
- Must be able to follow confidentiality guidelines
- Must be able to collaborate effectively with teachers
- Must be able to work independently and with minimum supervision
NECESSARY TEMPERAMENTS FOR THIS POSITION:
- Must be able to demonstrate patience and have empathy
- Must be able to respond to physically or emotionally demanding students and their behaviors effectively
- Must be able to interact appropriately with a diverse student population
- Must be able to maintain a positive attitude and work environment
- Must be able to follow the leadership and direction of the teacher and assist in motivating and encouraging the development of student’s positive self-concepts
- Must be able to work independently and with minimum supervision
- Must be able to prioritize and attend to multiple time sensitive tasks
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Supervision and support of students in various settings
- To assist in the provision of delegated health care procedures such as GT cases/feedings under the supervision of the district registered nurse
- To assist in the provision of therapy services to include transferring students in and out of specialized equipment. (applies to persons hired after 1994)
- To assist with lunchroom setup for specialized feedings
- Provide for personal care needs of any students which may include the following: diapering, catheters, colostomy bags, assisting with clothing and any other assistance that may result in contact of bodily fluids
- Assist students and staff with testing
- Follows the teacher-developed educational plan by working with individual students, small groups, and circulating around classroom
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
* Must maintain CPR/First Aide certification. Sessions are provided by the District.
