Responsibilities:The incumbent performs general radiographic procedures as well as more complex procedures according to written or transcribed verbal orders of a physician within the scope of his/her certification. Demonstrates competency in patient care for neonate, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. Technologist can be required to participate in the department's call schedule to ensure coverage of weeknights, weekends and holidays.
- Uses independent judgment according to particular circumstances in each modality, performs a broad range of imaging procedures to create diagnostic medical images that meet the acceptability criteria established by the Medical Director. Maintains a repeat rate of 3% - 5%. Verification of proficiency in each modality is measured by achieving a rate of 90% - 98% on the annual departmental competency evaluation.
- Complies with all Performance Expectations of Standard III for Radiologic Technologist 95% - 98% of time.
- Identifies the patient positively and correlates the procedure with the physicians order. Explains the procedure to the patient and responds to the patient questions/concerns before beginning. Obtains written consent to proceed when required by hospital standard practice. Measured by record/chart review with 95% - 98% compliance.
- Maintains a neat and clean work area, observes that equipment is in safe operating condition 95% - 98% of the time. Reports equipment issues to supervisor or seeks appropriate resources for repair within one hour; measured by observation and no more than 1-2 formal complaints about faulty equipment and dirty work area per year.
- Determines appropriate patient charges and enters all information into RIS 95% - 98% of time. Maintains accurate records of procedure and makes appropriate entries into medical record 95% - 98% of time.
- Maintains and preserves patient privacy, dignity, and comfort by using table pads, patient gowns, blankets, and sheets, etc. to cover the patient during all procedures 95% - 98% of time. Measured by observation and no more than 1 -2 formal complaints per year in this area.
- Participates in QI/QC efforts within Imaging Services and with other departments to improve services and to solve problems. Assists with data collection, correlation, and reporting as documented in meeting minutes and/or monthly QA/QC reports. Can exceed the expectation by actively participating in an identified project.

Education and Experience:
- Technologist displaying competency in general radiology in addition to two other modalities.
- Minimum 5 years of experience.
Licensure:
- Current licensure as a Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT) / Registration in Radiography from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology for Imaging including cross sectional relationships, medical terminology relating to Imaging procedures. Principles of operation and care of x-ray machines and accessory equipment. Currently accepted diagnostic radiology and special procedures training, radiation safety requirements and practices for the operator, patient and public. Image processing systems, mechanical and electrical safety practices and requirements in the patient examination environment, preparation, use and hazards of diagnostic contrast materials.
- Ability to minimize radiation exposure to patients, self and other persons. Perform general and specialized Radiologic procedures which meet the department's standard of quality. Recognize and respond to allergic reactions and other life threatening patient conditions which might arise during the examination process. Act courteously and with tact in dealing with patients, visitors and the public. Effectively and empathetically deal with agitated, ill and distressed patients. Develop and maintain a cooperative working relationship with physicians and other healthcare personnel, maintain confidentiality of patient records and information, coordinate several assignments and establish work priorities. Work effectively to adjust priorities as circumstances require. Organize work assignments, maintaining accurate and complete records, maintain a high degree of accuracy in procedural details and required documentation. Accurately operates and cares for Information System computers in the department, work independently on-call covering all normal clerical and technical functions, operate in and maintain a sterile environment.
Competency in general radiology in addition to one other modality:
- Angiography/Special Procedures, MRI and/or CT.
