Criteria for Initial Step Placement on the Schedule
Provisions Governing the Professional and Technical Salary Schedule per Collective Bargaining Agreement Criteria for Initial Placement on the Schedule Initial placement shall be made by Human Resources on Step 1 unless employee has previous experience in a Washington school district; then, years of experience credit will be considered for placement.
Advancement:
All professional and technical employees will move incrementally over one salary schedule step each year. Step advances are only made once a year effective September 1. To be eligible for such step advancement, an employee must have been in the position by January 31 of the previous school year.
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Director, Equity and Strategic Engagement, the Equity and Strategic Engagement Support Specialist supports the Equity and Strategic Engagement team, Superintendent's Office and works with District and school staff to implement and advance the race and equity policy and procedure initiative and support students and staff of color throughout the District. The Equity and Strategic Engagement Support Specialist will primarily serve by providing coordination, administrative, communication, and logistical support for the Director of Equity and Strategic Engagement, focusing on the systemic implementation of the Board Race and Equity Policy and the District's Strategic Plan.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

E = ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assists the Director of Equity and Strategic Engagement in achieving district strategic goals and systemic implementation of the Board Race and Equity Policy and procedure to assist educators and administrators in creating culturally supportive learning environments that ensure welcoming environments with equitable supports and high expectations for all KSD students. (E)
Leverages key internal and external stakeholder relationships to ensure compliance with district policies. (E)
Develops, implements, and evaluates goals and objectives as they pertain to areas of responsibility. (E)
Establishes a climate in the areas of responsibility conducive to appropriate conduct, performance, attitude, job satisfaction, and service orientation. (E)
Serves in a lead role for providing coordination, administrative and logistical support for the Director of Equity and Strategic Engagement (E)
Develops and maintains partnerships and relationships with District students, families, staff, and community members to enhance the overall performance and academic achievement of students of color; especially supporting their knowledge and implementation of Board Policy 1801 Race and Equity; represents the District on committees and task forces as assigned; serves as a liaison with the community, businesses, and foundations that impact student services; communicates regularly with the community. (E)
Collaborates with communities, teams, schools, families, and partners to support evidenced-based culturally responsive family and community engagement in schools; assists school staff in recognizing and valuing the rich diversity of students and families and in finding ways to support staff and leadership in creating welcoming environments that value differences and are culturally inclusive. (E)
Create summary documents and charts to illustrate information in a clear, concise, and easy-to-understand manner. (E)
Assists in developing and embedding processes to automate information and data gathering in Equity and Strategic Engagement reports. (E)
Partners with Communications and Public Affairs to support one-way and two-way engagement efforts. (E)
Collaborates with other departments and school staff to collect accurate data required for federal reporting requirements. (E)
Coordinates and tracks data related to projects and programs assigned by the Director of Equity interdependently and collaborates with other KSD departments. (E)
Provides training and oversight to administrative support staff regarding confidential and sensitive student and staff information related to the position. (E)
Works collaboratively with schools and other departments in support of the Strategic Plan. (E)
Communicates directly with students and families and other district staff related to the duties of the position. (E)
Attends external and community events to engage and learn from the diverse stakeholders and share our strategic plan focus, our District's stories, and opportunities. (E)
Prepares materials for required reports, including presentations and documents for reports to District and community leaders. (E)
MaiPrepares and assists in the facilitation of meetings to complete projects. (E)
Writes weekly/monthly communications to various stakeholders on projects and performance outcomes, documenting activities, and/or conveying information. (E)
Communicates difficult/sensitive information tactfully; resolves and/or escalates issues in a timely fashion; maintains adequate and careful records as required by the District. (E)
Ability to apply racial equity analysis tools to organizational processes, procedures, and policies. (E)
Provides for the care of school property and appropriate use of supplies, equipment, and utilities. (E)
Manages special projects or assists other departments with project management as assigned. (E)
Assures accurate and timely dissemination of information. (E)
Attends or leads a variety of meetings as needed. (E)
Participates in ongoing professional development to further District goals related to improving culturally responsive practices and cultural proficiency, equity, and excellence and to enhance personal and professional skills; maintains current on practices and research in assigned area(s); establishes competency goals for self in the area(s) of assignment and to enhance professional development training standards. (E)
Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the team. (E)
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Education Leadership, or social services related fields preferred Associates degree in related field required.
- Minimum of two years of experience in working with state and federal programs (Equity and Strategic Engagement) in a public school district.
- Minimum of two years of experience with data gathering, manipulation, and report generation using process and data tools.
- Experience managing projects and tracking budgets
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bilingual (oral and written; academic fluency).
- Proven successful experience in an ethnically diverse public school district.
- Project Management Certification or related training

- Research, best practices, and technical aspects of the field of specialty, including but not limited to rules, regulations, legislation, technology, and procedures governing Equity and Strategic Engagement.
- Principles, practices, trends, goals, and objectives of Equity and Strategic Engagement in public education.
- Demonstrates a general understanding of the Strategic Plan as an area of focus for the District
- WSIPC and the WESPaC or Skyward Web System or related systems.
- Automated systems or approaches to establishing and sustaining metrics and reporting in clear, repeatable, and meaningful formats.
- Effective facilitation skills for providing professional development to adult learners and for various professional interactions with adults.
