Special Services Specialized Program Paraeducator - Chiawana/PTC - Pasco School District

LOCATION: Kent-Meridian High School is a 9-12 high school of over 2000 students located within the city of Kent.  KM is the most diverse high school in the state of Washington. It serves a richly diverse student population (81% students of color, 33% of students served in either ELL or SE, 71 different languages spoken); ethnically, racially, and socio-economically (70+% free/reduced lunch). There is a strong commitment by the staff and administration at KM to successfully prepare all students to be successful when they graduate.  To ensure this commitment, KM has converted to a full Standards-based Instruction and grading system. Our transparent Standards-based grading system ensures students are assessed on specific standards and skills tied to scales that are meaningful and frequently measured. Our School Improvement plan is based on rigor, relevance, and relationships. In addition, Kent-Meridian offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme for students in grades 11 and 12 as well as rigorous AP and Honors programs in the 9th and 10th grade.  Kent-Meridian also offers AVID, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), a Technology Academy as well as a variety of co-curricular programs including sports, music, theater, and special interest activities.  

Persons applying for paid coaching positions must meet district and WIAA requirements including a valid background check. Applicants for head coaching positions must be at least 21 years of age.  Applicants for assistant coaching positions must be at least 19 years of age.  They must also have a valid first aid and CPR card.  The following procedures must be followed in order to apply for paid coaching positions:

1. Complete the KSD classified online application process including professional reference forms.
2. Annually complete the WIAA general rules clinic and the WIAA approved rule clinic for the sport being coached prior to the end of the third week of the sports season.
3. Have successfully completed Concussion recognition and management with Return to Play Protocols training as required by Washington State Law that must be renewed every three (3) years.
4. Have successfully completed Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness and Training as required by Washington State Law that must be renewed every three (3) years.
5. Before the beginning of the third year of coaching, a member school coach (paid or volunteer) must complete a school district approved Coaching Principles training, or complete the NFHS Coaches Fundamentals Course, or attend all sessions of the WIAA Coaches School, or other Coaches School as approved by the WIAA or the local school district. After initial completion, coaches will be required to repeat this training every three (3) years
6. Building athletic directors will monitor the applicant pool for their open positions and contact applicants as necessary.
7. If hired, the paid coach must complete the hiring paperwork and KSD trainings.
