PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Special Systems Administrator, under the supervision of theSecurity Systems Administrator, ensures that the districts fire alarms, sprinkler systems, intercoms, clocks, bell systems, public announcement systems, fire extinguishers, elevators, intrusion alarms, and other monitoring security systems are functioning properly and are up to date with inspections and certifications.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Certification Requirements
- High School graduate or GED equivalent
- Valid Texas Driver’s License
- Technical, vocational school or training with fire and burglar alarms preferred
- State Security and Fire Alarm license preferred
- Knowledge of LAN and WAN protocols
- Background andthree years of experience in similar systems administration
Special Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of national electrical code and fire alarm codes preferred
- Some knowledge of how to read and interpret electronic drawings and electronic schematics
- Effective in communicating verbally and in writing
- Must have knowledge LAN and WAN protocols
- Thorough knowledge of access control and IP camera management software preferred
Experience
- Minimum two years’ experience with installing, configuring, and maintaining IP video surveillance, intrusion alarms, access control, fire alarms, sprinkler systems, clocks, and other district monitoring and security devices.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists the Security Systems Administrator with the design, planning, and implementation of cameras/access control hardware for new construction as well as special projects
- Ensure district compliance to state and federal regulations related to security systems
- Responsible for the record keeping of inspections according to local, state, and federal guidelines.
- Coordinate inspections and the compliance of all fire extinguishers.
- Responsible for the proper functioning of all fires alarms and intrusion detection systems.
- Responsible to report any alarm system failures and taking appropriate steps to remedy any failures or maintenance needs of alarm systems.
- Make sound recommendations regarding improving and maintaining fire alarms, intercoms, clocks, intrusion alarms, sprinkler systems, elevators, and other low voltage systems.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours
- Responsible for after hour calls dealing with fire alarm, intercom, intrusion alarm, clock, and bell systems/PA systems.
- Coordinate all work orders pertaining to the fire alarms, intrusion alarms, sprinkler systems, public announcement systems, bell systems, clock systems, and other security devices as needed.
- Coordinate service and inspection contractors
- Configure and maintain access control, badging and IP camera management systems
- Assists with and/or performs system debugging and maintenance of onsite systems
- Assists with identification of work scopes and development of cost estimates
- Assists in checking references and making recommendations for contract awards
- Serves as liaison with consulting firms working closely with contracted professionals
- Works for effective collaboration among all parties and quality assurance among all parties
- Coordinates with in-house departments and directs minor contract work
- Works diligently to assure satisfactory and timely completion of projects
- Is knowledgeable of special systems and conscientious in maintaining integrity of security and safety systems
- Has a working knowledge of national codes related to life safety, accessibility, and locking systems, requiring accuracy and attention to detail
- Requires the ability to plan, organize, coordinate and document multiple concurrent complex tasks and projects
- Participate in professional development activities to maintain current knowledge of personnel rules, regulations, and practices
- Maintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearance
- Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job
- Perform other duties as assigned based on department needs.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Monitor and provide evaluation input of Special Systems Technician

- Office equipment – personal computer, printer, calculator, multi-line telephone, software programs and peripherals, copier, fax, and other equipment applicable to position.
