**The UW's** **_Housing & Food Services_** **has an outstanding opportunity for a** **_Temporary_** **Specialist for Student Leadership & Equity** **to join their team!** _This position will be a 9-Month Duration._ **POSITION PURPOSE**
- Develops and manages residence education programs, diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, and other activities to support residential students in achieving success academically, socially, and personally within a welcoming living environment.
**DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES** **Student Development (30%)**
- Co-chair the Community Development Model (CDM) committee to provide guidance and oversight in proposing and implementing recommended changes to further enhance student learning and development.
- Facilitate Community Manager CDM discussions about practices and trends across communities to gather feedback about proposed changes to the current model.
- Develop and lead the bi-annual Community Development Model review process.
- Gather and evaluate data from Community Development Model practices and strategies; enhance assessment strategies to measure student learning outcomes.
**Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) (30%)**
- Participate in short- and long-range planning for diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.
- Assist with actualizing concepts surrounding inclusive best practice into student leadership and advocacy.
- Provide leadership in DEI initiatives, programs, and student leader-facing and student-facing committees.
- Support Gender-Inclusive Housing, including disseminating information to Residential Life staff, assisting with the Gender Inclusive Open House and other outreach efforts, and working in collaboration with Student Services to manage the Gender-Inclusive Housing process.
- Support Black Affinity Housing, including training Residential Life staff, creating assessment strategies to evaluate student learning and engagement in the program, and developing outreach strategies to engage campus partners in the program.
- Assist and support Assistant Director for Residential Life with DEI program coordination as needed.
**Living Learning Communities (30%)**
- Collaborate with campus partners in the annual review and revision of Memorandums of Understanding.
- Plan, implement and assess Living Learning Community staff training in conjunction with the Specialist for Training and Selection along with the Assistant Directors for Residential Life.
- Maintain internal and external facing materials online regarding Living Learning Communities.
- Provide support and coaching to Residential Life staff regarding the continual development and implementation of Living Learning Communities
- Support HFS Student Services Office in the dissemination of housing information to campus partners, students and staff.
- Develop and implement tools to measure and assess program effectiveness.
- Plan, schedule, and facilitate quarterly roundtable meetings with Community Managers who oversee LLCs, RAs who work in LLCs, and LLC campus partners.
- In partnership with the Residential Life Leadership Team, contribute to establishment and maintenance of academic connections between Residential Life and the general University community.
**Other Position Responsibilities (10%)**
- Serve as a member of the Residential Life team.
- Contribute to Residential Life initiatives such as committee membership, committee leadership, Move-In, Move-Out, Early Fall Programs, staff selection, opening activities, and recognition events.
- Develop, monitor, and track budget expenditures of areas of responsibility.
- Assess efforts and prepare quarterly written reports and documents encompassed by areas of oversight.
- Provide feedback to Assistant Directors regarding Community Manager performance in supporting student leadership initiatives and expectations.
- Participate in the day-to-day operational priorities within the Residential Life unit.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
**IMPACT TO THE UNIVERSITY**
An effective residential life program supports student retention, socialization and academic success. This position advances the core mission of the University by developing and supporting learning communities and promoting student development and academic success.
**POSITION COMPLEXITIES**
HFS Residential Life houses over 9500 students in residence halls and apartments. This position is responsible for program development, and the operationalizing of student development and applied environmental theory within this complex and quickly evolving environment.
**Supervision**
- Supervise student leaders responsible for educational programming and assign tasks to Office Assistants.
**SUPERVISION PROVIDED**
The position works under general supervision and reports to an Assistant Director of Residential Life.
**WORKING CONDITIONS** **The position works a regular** **Monday through Friday** **schedule; however, it requires some evening and weekend commitments throughout the year. Position involves program and project management, chairing meetings and speaking publicly.** **MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**
- Bachelors degree in student development or a related field or a relevant undergraduate degree and one year of relevant professional experience in student engagement, student club programming, including academic advising.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may substitute for requirements.
**DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS**
Experience that demonstrates:
- Masters Degree in related field
- Evidence of pursuit of ongoing training and personal development.
- Strong oral and written communications skills with high attention to detail.
- Exposure to an academic environment.
- Knowledgeable regarding university programs and services.
- Demonstrated commitment to promoting and incorporating promising practices surrounding inclusion and community equity.
- Demonstrated commitment to student learning/development and collaboration with staff, faculty and students in delivery of programs and services.
- Ability to develop ideas and implement them through teamwork and collaboration.
- Demonstrated success in delivering results and building buy-in and accountability for staff.
**CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT**
