Spring 2025 Nonprofit Administration Intern (IINE Manchester)

The International Institute of New England is a 501(c)(3) non-profit serving refugees and immigrants in Boston, MA, Lowell, MA, and Manchester, NH. The Institute offers internships to students, graduate students, and recent graduates with demonstrated interest or experience in supporting refugee, asylee, and immigrant populations. Each internship includes an educational component, through which interns contextualize their experience and reflect on their service.

All internships are unpaid and correspond roughly with the US semester system:

• Spring Internship: January through mid-May 2025
  (Applications requested by November 29th, considered thereafter until positions are filled)

First consideration is given to applicants that can commit at least 16 hours per week over the course of the semester outlined above. Applicants are encouraged to apply regardless of whether their schedule fits the semester system; IINE makes exceptions on a case-by-case basis. Slots fill quickly and candidates are encouraged to apply earlier than the requested date above.

Please note that this internship will be a hybrid format, meaning that some in-person hours at our Manchester, NH office are required.

Nonprofit Administration Internship Overview

IINE Manchester supports the use of Pinpoint Language Translation Services on-site and remotely. Pinpoint’s diverse team of local interpreters provides support interpreting at local appointments, assisting with over-the-phone calls for IINE staff, and translates documents for community partners in over 300 languages.

The objectives of the Nonprofits Administration Internship are to:

1. Learn skills that translate to all non-profits and for-profit businesses, including employee management, business administration, marketing, grants/contracts, and social media
2. Support the growth Pinpoint Language Translation Services in Manchester
3. Encourage new applicants to join Pinpoint by analyzing Pinpoint’s language needs

Reports to: Senior Manager, Pinpoint Services

Location: Manchester, NH

Key Responsibilities:

• Create and maintain an archive library of marketing materials for Pinpoint
• Craft content for social media, including social media posts and other marketing materials
• Keep shared calendar of interpreter appointments and track appointment completion
• Support sending out paper-mail for translation projects
• Assist in updating and maintaining Pinpoint department resources in SharePoint
• Field calls from interested parties applying for interpretation positions, including gathering contact information and directing them to IINE’s website to apply
• Assist with interpreter scheduling, including:
  • Appointment booking and platform management
  • Updates interpret availability
  • Record keeping and filing, including timesheets and mileage reimbursements

Qualifications:

• Interest in international, refugee, asylee, and/or immigrant issues
• Language skills in Spanish, Haitian Creole, French, Ukrainian, Swahili, Kinyarwanda, and/or Arabic strongly preferred
• Patience speaking with non-native English speaks/non-English speakers
• Professionalism, discretion, and maturity in dealing with confidential information
• Highly organized with great attention to detail
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, and Canva

2. Develop an understanding of external client management and support needs
3. Learn about the processes involved with finance and billing for interpreter appointments
4. Understand the importance of social media and marketing to support business growth
5. Grow skillset within administrative tasks and upkeep of documentation
6. Capture important information from interpreters to maintain and update platforms
7. Respectfully express and engage with ideas and values in a multicultural, multilingual environment
