Job Summary
We are seeking a highly organized, reliable self-starter to fill the role of Senior Accountant. Reporting directly to the Associate Dean, the Senior Accountant will maintain and reconcile ledgers and accounts following Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This position requires someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, can efficiently solve problems, and has experience in accounting or finance. The ideal candidate must be able to organize and track a significant volume of transactions, work with multiple team members across the department, and interpret complex accounting systems and requirements.
Responsibilities
Financial Management and Reporting:
- Reconcile tuition accounts, manage financial records, and prepare payment requests (including scholarships and payroll).
- Use a variety of campus financial systems and software to track finances, provide reports to management, and ensure accuracy.
- Work with faculty to process faculty pay and address financial needs related to their compensation.
- Ensure timely and accurate payments, maintaining consistency with department and university guidelines.
- Develop and track budgets for individual projects, classes, and department-wide activities.
- Manage payments for custom courses and open enrollment, including discounts and vouchers.
- Serve as a liaison between the department and other campus entities (Accounts Payable, Travel, Scheduling, etc.) to ensure efficient financial processes.
- Ensure compliance with university policies across all transactions.
- Implement improvements in accounting processes and streamline office operations to enhance efficiency.
- Provide potential support to accounting or financial classes, which may include assisting as a Teaching Assistant (TA) or supporting faculty.
- Serve as a point of contact for various accounting-related inquiries.
- Address and settle any financial discrepancies.
- Other duties as assigned to support the department.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience), plus two years professional accounting experience. Also required are a thorough knowledge of established accounting principles and practices, knowledge of accounting software, advanced spreadsheet skills, the ability to write queries and macros and demonstrated analytical, problem solving, human relations and effective communication skills.
Certifications as a Certified Public Accountant may be preferred for certain positions.
