Position Summary:
Vallen's Senior Accountant performs a variety of accounting activities in accordance with accounting principles and standards to control the organization's financial resources and ensure that Vallen complies with all relevant regulations, laws, and reporting requirements. They lead 3rd party financial auditing activities. Senior Accountants balance intercompany activity (domestic and foreign) and prepare respective activity reports for Vallen & Sonepar. They reconcile the largest and most complex accounts and check the accuracy of journal entries to ensure that the general ledger is accurate and complete. They check and analyze financial information and prepare financial reports and accounting statements so that Vallen leadership has accurate and timely information for making financial decisions. These reports may include, but are not limited to profit and loss statements, balance sheets, depreciation statements, cash flow, debtor and creditor lists, repayment schedules, regulatory reports and filings. Sr. Accountants provide subject matter expertise to functional or operational areas managers to help them develop revenue and expense budgets, understand financial reports, and manage their financial responsibilities.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with multiple accounting systems while demonstrating an understanding of the interrelationships of the data.
- Lead financial auditing activities; collaborate with internal audit, external and 3rd party auditors; ensure audit closure and follow-up activities are completed.
- Balance and prepare intercompany activity reporting with Vallen domestic and foreign affiliate companies as well as for Sonepar.
- Oversee Vallen's customer management fee process; prepare, set-up, and roll out contractual management fees for Integrated Supply branches; ensure billing and collection contract compliance.
- Act as a liaison to 3rd party vendors for service reconciliation and payment.
- Prepare balance sheet review and presentation for Executive leadership, FP&A, 3rd party auditors, and other relevant parties.
- Perform the largest and most complex financial reconciliations reconciliation activities to ensure accuracy of the general ledger; ensure accurate and timely review of reconciliation variances.
- Document business transactions and prepare monthly journal entries; support the month-end close process.
- Perform monthly analysis on transactions.
- Prepare ad-hoc financial analysis and reports in response to field and management inquiries.
- Identify, analyze, and address fluctuation variances in assigned accounts and/or assigned business segments.
- Review deposits for proper recognition.
- Record and monitor fixed assets.
- Manage financial accounting for growth and co-op rebate programs. Prepare proper forecasting and reporting.
- Oversee the customer rebate programs for proper distribution of funds, accruals and reporting.
- Review activity reports at the corporate level for potential issues that impact balances or have incorrect P&L impact.
- Review extremely large activities, both positive and negative for accuracy.
- Assisting in the improvement in internal controls.
- Manage foreign currency exchange.
- Manage lease and capital expenditures including but not limited to vending leases.
- Coach less experienced accounting staff and assist with problem resolution.
- Perform other duties and manage projects as assigned.
Job Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field of study coupled with at least 5+ years of experience in accounting and/or accounts payable; CPA preferred. Other relevant experience should include:
- Demonstrated understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and the ability to put them into practice.
- Demonstrated broad scope expertise in multiple accounting functions
- Demonstrated analytical skills necessary for identify and determining the root cause of variances on key accounts with high visibility.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy

- Demonstrated ability to analyze, interpret, and report research findings in a timely and professional manner
- Strong working knowledge of MS-Excel (e.g., pivot tables, v-lookups, etc.)
- Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and with little supervision

- Demonstrated strong planning, organizational and execution skills
- Demonstrated ability to set goals and achieve deadlines
- Technical aptitude to build queries and extract pertinent data from various programs (preferred, not required)
