Sr. Accountant- Sales Tax Specialist - BlueWave

BlueWave is seeking a Senior Accountant for an industry leading technology company based in Houston, TX 77306. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience managing sales tax compliance, reporting, and analysis. As a Senior Accountant you will be responsible for ensuring adherence to tax regulations, optimizing tax processes, and supporting overall financial accuracy and integrity.

Responsibilities:

• Account Reconciliation - Perform detailed reconciliations of general ledger accounts, including bank statements, accounts payable, accounts receivable, sales tax accounts and other financial accounts. 
• Month-End and Year-End Close - Assist with leading and managing the month-end and year-end closing processes. 
• Sales Tax Compliance - Manage and oversee all aspects of sales tax compliance, including the preparation, filing, and payment of sales tax returns. 
• Tax Planning and Strategy - Develop and implement strategies to optimize sales tax processes and minimize tax liabilities. 
• Reporting and Analysis - Prepare detailed sales tax reports for management, including analyses of sales tax liabilities, refunds, and exemptions. 
• Audit and Documentation - Coordinate with external auditors and tax authorities during audits. Maintain thorough and organized documentation to support tax positions and compliance.
• Process Improvement - Identify and implement process improvements related to sales tax accounting and compliance.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration - Partner with other departments such as sales and legal to ensure accurate tax treatment of transactions and compliance with tax regulations
• Training and Support - Provide training and support to team members and other departments regarding sales tax matters. 
• Develop Policies and Procedures - Develop and maintain policies and procedures related to sales tax to ensure consistency and compliance across the organization.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience with a strong focus on sales tax compliance and reporting
• Knowledge of sales tax regulations and practices at the federal, state, and local levels
• Proven experience with tax software and accounting systems
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex tax laws and apply them to business practices
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy, with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and with external stakeholders
