About the Job
As a Sr Software Engineer, the incumbent will be (1) maintaining and improving existing IT systems focused on supporting health and research programs (2) Collaborating with stakeholders to determine operational needs (3) Designing new IT solutions/functionalities using existing and emerging technology platforms to improve efficiency and effectiveness as needed.
Mobile application systems typically supported from this role use Android Studio, Java, and Kotlin. The candidate must be able to work well independently or as part of a larger team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of software solutions that will meet or exceed business requirements; the development effort includes designing and implementing modules to the system specifications, conducting unit testing, troubleshooting issues and producing detailed proposals to resolve issues.
- Evaluate new coding techniques, tools, modules, and implementation as appropriate.
- Lead and mentor entry and mid-level developers.
- Consult on requirements elicitation and definition.
- Design software solutions per systems requirements.
- Code software solutions per designs.
- Code reviews, unit test, and integrate coded modules.
- Assist other developers in resolving issues by providing guidance and training.
- Support testing and remediate defects.
- Support users through troubleshooting and analysis of production logs and data.
- Investigate new solutions, tools, products, and techniques to incorporate into coding standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Project Specific Duties:
- Design and develop robust user-friendly Android Mobile applications per systems requirements.
- Apply engineering principles to software development, ensuring scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
- Document and demonstrate solutions by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments and clear code.
- Communicate the status of projects to Project Manager and development leads.
- Strong communication skills (both written and verbal) are required.
- Strong problem solving and critical thinking.
- Stay up to date with the latest industry trends and technologies to ensure our solutions remain competitive.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of our development processes and practices.
- Adhere to the client's security standards and policies, as well as comply with PII privacy regulations.
- Ability to perform all job duties in compliance with HIPAA guidelines and company confidentiality policies.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in related field required.
- 5-7 years of relevant professional experience required.
Project Specific Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- 5 to 7 years of experience in conducting and/or supporting mobile software development projects
- 4+ years of hands-on mobile software development experience using Android Studio and Java technologies
- Strong knowledge of mobile UI/UX design principles
- Proficiency in using GIT for source code management
- Familiarity with 508 compliance standards
Desired Skills:
- Familiarity with Kotlin
- Proficiency in using Confluence and JIRA
- Understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies

- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust - Moderate Risk security clearance

Pay Transparency
Maximus compensation is based on various factors including but not limited to job location, a candidate's education, training, experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value analysis including seniority and merit systems, as well as internal pay alignment. Annual salary is just one component of Maximus's total compensation package. Other rewards may include short- and long-term incentives as well as program-specific awards. Additionally, Maximus provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off. Compensation ranges may differ based on contract value but will be commensurate with job duties and relevant work experience.
