BASIC PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Sr. Database Administrator (DBA) will be responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of our database systems, ensuring optimal performance, security, and availability. This role will work closely with other IT professionals and business units to support our mission-critical applications and data management needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design and implement database structures in Microsoft SQL environments.
- Optimize database performance through efficient design, indexing strategies, and query optimization.
- Administer and maintain multiple database environments, including development, testing, and production for both on-premises and Azure Cloud-based environments.
- Manage regular database backups, recovery, and participate in disaster recovery planning in compliance with departmental and company standards.
- Monitor database performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure high availability and reliability.
- Implement and manage performance tuning processes, including query optimization and indexing.
- Ensure database security by implementing appropriate access controls and encryption.
- Maintain compliance with industry regulations and standards, including data protection and privacy laws.
- Implement strategies, products, and services necessary to maintain security and data integrity.
- Work closely with application developers and business analysts to support database-related project requirements.
- Provide expert support and guidance on database-related issues and best practices.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for database configurations and procedures.
- Generate regular reports on database performance, capacity, and utilization.
- Provide procedures and supporting documentation relating to SOX 404: Management of Internal IT Controls
- Stay current with the latest database technologies and industry trends.
- Recommend and implement improvements to enhance database performance and efficiency.
POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Advanced certifications or a master’s degree is a plus.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in database administration, with a strong background in oil and gas industry operations preferred.
- Proficiency in SQL and database management.
- Experience with cloud-based database solutions (e.g., Azure SQL Database).
- Strong understanding of SQL and database scripting.
- Experience with database performance tuning and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of database security best practices and compliance requirements.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Highly proficient in verbal and written communications.
- Effective communication and people skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
PAY INFORMATION:
- Annual Salary Pay Range: $150k - $175k
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The position requires manual dexterity to handle documents and operate office equipment such as fax machines, copiers, printers, shredders, and computers. Also required is performing repetitive motions and extended periods of sitting, standing, and walking for varying lengths of time. The position requires interacting and communicating professionally with others via speaking, hearing, and writing; learning new tasks, processes, and concepts; thinking to solve problems; concentrating on required tasks; distinguishing color and depth perception; and reading data, figures, electronic and hard copy documents.
Visual and manual dexterity is extremely important for this position. The job presents no work hazards beyond those normally present in an office environment. Incumbent will be subject to performing sedentary to light work, exerting up to 10-20 pounds of force occasionally, or constantly lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or otherwise moving objects, reach overhead for items, stoop, bend, and twist while working. Other physical activities include the ability to utilize fingers to feel and grasp objects or work devices as needed and manual dexterity in the use of the hands, seeing, talking, hearing, performing repetitive motions, and standing for long periods of time.
