Position Overview:
The Arc is seeking a full-time Sr. Delegating RN/Case Manager. Reporting to the Director of Nursing, you will be groomed for a larger role. You will provide nursing support in the form of case management for assigned people in The Arc’s Employment Services, Day, Community Living and Community Supports Services programs. You will actively participate as a member of our supported person’s IP teams, and you will teach and supervise staff in the performance of delegated nursing tasks.
Here’s a Snapshot of What You’ll Be Doing Day-to-Day:
- Direct, oversee and evaluate the clinical practice of the license practical nurses (LPNs)
- Monitor, review and report CMT certifications monthly to ensure compliance.
- In the absence of the DON, will assume responsibility for the nursing department
- Conduct initial nursing assessments, making updates as needed for all assigned participants (i.e. Self-Medication Assessments, Choking/Aspiration Pneumonia Risk Assessment and Diet and Meal Protocol)
- Develop, monitor and update Nursing Care Plans
- Nursing reviews of health status and delegated care (i.e., “45-day reviews”) for all supported people requiring delegated nursing functions; reviews/assessments may be required more often according to persons’ needs
- Teach and/or written verification of teaching and competency of staff in the performance of delegated nursing functions
- Regular review (at least annually) and documentation of staff competency in the performance of delegated nursing functions
- Participation in weekend on-call rotation for Residential Services from Friday evening to Sunday evening, shared by all Day and Employment Services delegating RNs
- Provide call coverage by accepting calls from staff and provide direction as needed when those staff are not able to reach their assigned Delegating Nurse
- Appropriate, prompt response to emergencies and other health issues reported by staff
- Follow-up on supported person’s health status in the event of significant changes, especially including discharge from hospitals or other care facilities, to determine need for additional staff training or changes in Nursing Care Plan
- Make written recommendations/guidelines for Self-Medication, shared with the team for any individuals with self-medication as part of IP goals
- Liaison with home caregivers, families, and Residential Services provider agencies regarding individuals’ health care, for individuals in Day Services as applicable
- Share teaching of MTTP and Two-Year Clinical Medication Update classes (may vary according to MTTP training personnel and schedule)
- Teaching, supervision, and support of LPNs, CNAs, Certified Medication Technicians (CMTs) and other Arc staff involved in individuals’ health care
- Attendance at staff meetings in all applicable programs when required for staff teaching or other nursing-related issues
- Communication with other Delegating RNs (in the Arc, and outside the Arc) regarding health care issues for assigned shared individuals

Requirements
You are the Ideal Candidate If You Have:
- Active RN Licensure in the State of Maryland, preferably with Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing
- Two (2) years of clinical nursing experience, preferably with one (1) year of experience working with people with developmental disabilities
- Supervisory experience of unlicensed assistive personnel preferred
- Thorough knowledge of the Maryland Nurse Practice Act regarding delegation of nursing functions
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Effective, professional, respectful oral and written communication with all levels of staff, with supported people, with families, and with all others involved in participants’ care
- Positive “can-do” attitude toward challenges and problems
- Commitment to the person-centered process for developing and implementing services and supports
- Strong clinical skills
- Ability to work cohesively within the team by being supportive and dependable and demonstrating team values
