Solid Power is seeking a Sr. Director of Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) to join our talented team of engineers and scientists working to revolutionize the battery industry through the development of the next generation, all solid-state rechargeable batteries. The safety of our employees is of the highest priority for Solid Power and needs to be shown in everything we do. The preferred candidate will have 15 plus years of Environmental Health and Safety experience within the chemical industry, with 5 plus years' experience leading a safety team. Additionally, you must have extensive knowledge of environmental health and safety regulations, and the ability to lead and collaborate with cross functional organization. This leader will drive internal initiatives to increase awareness, execution, and compliance with all policies to ensure a safe and effective working environment.
Job Duties
- Drives Environmental Health and Safety-First Culture
- Cultivates a network of safety partners/champions throughout the organization to help drive consistent safety leadership and engage cross functional team members in key initiatives
- Lead EHS continuous improvement efforts to detect and eliminate potential risks; establish standards and methods for measuring EHS performance and maintain a visible dashboard to ensure on-going safety recognition and corrective action
- Strong root cause analysis experience that focuses on informed decision making at all levels of the organization
- Lead and develop EH&S organization to meet Solid Power long term growth objectives; ensures appropriate staffing and capabilities are available
- Proven leadership abilities, including the ability to coach, mentor and develop EHS professionals and engage cross-functional teams
- Influence the SP organization with a strategic forward-thinking mindset on issues and trends
- Reshape emergency system communications and strategy
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant EHS regulations and standards within the chemical industry
- Development and/or implementation of Environmental, Health and Safety compliance programs ISO 45001, REACH, OSHA
- Drive of EH&S policies, procedures, and tools to meet SP long term objectives
- Define short and long term ESG objectives and strategies for the EH&S organization
- Define EH&S requirements for SP New Programs to fulfill industry, local, state and federal guidelines and regulations
- Manages the department's budget to achieve business objectives. Report status of projects to business and market leaders
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent education/experience) in engineering, environmental health, or occupational health related discipline, plus 15+ years' experience
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA. PSM, IFC, REACH and EPA standards
- Chemical safety background with a focus on flammable liquids and water reactive compounds preferred
- ISO 45001 Internal Auditor (Lead Auditor preferred)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills - must be able to write and implement administrative policies and procedures
- Ability to explain technical concepts in simple terms
- Familiarity with project and department budget process and tools
- Conceptual planning ability, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Works well under pressure while effectively managing conflict and demonstrates flexibility in work style to accommodate changing priorities and fixed deadlines
Physical Requirements
- Ability to wear respirator protection
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk
- This position will require routine bending, walking, stooping, and kneeling
Salary Range: $155,000 - $200,000 annually
