Strata-G is seeking an experienced Sr Engineer IV – Principal Engineer (Mechanical Engineering) with the following:
Summary:
- The Engineering Programs engineer is responsible for developing and maintaining client specific technical design standards, related procedures, and providing consulting and training on their use. The programs engineer will provide as-needed technical expertise and serve as the company authority for identification and interpretation of discipline engineering related requirements (e.g. client and consensus codes and standards) and resolution of associated technical issues.
- Effectively influence discipline practitioners in the conduct of the specialist work of their discipline.
- Establish and maintain relationships with external SMEs and the supply chain and to augment in-house subject matter expertise when required to deliver client scope.
- Represent client and make authoritative technical recommendations in respect of their discipline.
- Interpret discipline-specific design and technical basis information to support operations and project delivery.
- Maintain technical competence and stay current with modem standards, tools and methodologies relevant to their respective discipline.
- Maintain current required qualifications for the role.
- Develop, implement, maintain, assess and interpret discipline-specific processes, procedures and standards.
- Develop and maintain a standardized list of discipline-specific company, national and consensus codes and standards to be applied to client engineering work.
- Support operations and project delivery in the identification of appropriate discipline-specific design input and engineering processes, procedures and standards to be used for the delivery of engineering work.
- Proactively progress discipline technical reviews of new designs, major facility modifications, and other technical documents required by projects and operations to assist them in achieving their schedule commitments.
- Sponsor and/or lead discipline-specific process improvement initiatives.
- Communicate, train, and advise the organization on discipline-specific technical requirements and issues.
- Promote and facilitate best practice and the sharing of discipline-specific learning.
- Provides leadership direction to technical personnel, including assigning highly complex work and setting work priorities.
- Provides management with acceptable implementation of design and consulting coordination.
- Ensure documents, operating procedures etc. meet industry, company, and client standards.
- Applies expertise in a specialized field of engineering or science to broadly stated technical problems.
- Identifies and defines problems; plans and conducts research aimed at their solution. Conducts or leads special studies on new technologies, methods, and materials.
- Carries out special or unique studies requiring unconventional or novel approaches or research techniques.
- Uses all available guides and precedents and expands and develops where these contain critical gaps, are only partially related to the problem, or are largely lacking because of the novel character of the project.
- Leads in the formulation of advanced engineering/scientific concepts during proposal development and preliminary design phases and presents these to client management.
- Conducts research, presents papers, and keeps abreast of technological developments in a specialty, keeping engineering management informed of important new advances.
- Serves as senior level consultant to project and specialty engineering/scientific groups, providing advice and counsel on assignments having special and unique features.
- Supports preparation of and reviews discipline estimates, discipline work plans, budgets, and schedules.
- Develops and coordinates special educational and training programs for client personnel and/or clients.
- Participates in and fosters a work environment based upon openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.
JOB KNOWLEDGE:
- Professional Engineer License preferred.
- Experienced with mechanical piping and/or HVAC systems and related codes and standards (e.g. ASME B31.3, ASHRAE, AG-1, etc.). Experienced with code-based analyses, knows applications of engineering methods and construction methods and materials, and application of computer aided engineering (CAE)/computer aided design (CAD) tools to engineering problems.
- Broad knowledge of major industry or regulatory standards and design criteria pertinent to the particular engineering discipline.
- Experience developing or leading process or program improvement initiatives.
- Excellent skills in oral and written communication.
- Experience or knowledge of welding requirements, standards, and practices desired.
Education:
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
Experience:
20+ years of experience required
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer license preferred
