SUMMARY: The Senior Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for the design, fabrication, modification, and repair of molds used in the plastic injection molding process. Inventive and meticulous, the Senior Manufacturing Engineer also implements robust manufacturing processes that result in high-quality products. Advanced knowledge of tool design and fabrication methods is required as well as other critical manufacturing engineer skills which include project management ability, commitment to quality, and familiarity with safety and environmental standards. This is a dynamic, autonomous, proactive, hands-on role.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plastic injection mold design responsibilities
- Design molds: use SolidWorks software to create molds for plastic prototypes and manufacturing
- Manage design related issues throughout the build process; modifies molds, making changes as needed.
- Set up equipment based on mold requirements, materials, and tolerances.
- Use measuring and gauging tools to inspect and ensure molds meet specifications.
- Conduct quality control testing before mold enters the production cycle.
- Select materials, and understand the different types of plastic and how they behave during the injection molding process
- Train, monitor, and coach machine operators.
- General engineering responsibilities
- Study production and machine requirements
- Develop and test effective automated and manual systems
- Integrate disparate systems (e.g. equipment handling, transport)
- Collaborate with engineers and other internal staff, as well as contractors and suppliers as needed and/or to resolve issues
- Carefully document and maintain new and existing manufacturing processes, and train staff in those processes
- Ensure that manufacturing procedures follow safety and environmental regulations
- Upgrade systems and processes with new technology
- Address and solve issues in production, or those related to procurement, such as delays, shortages, or quality concerns
- Ensure all procurement activities comply with legal and regulatory requirements
- Manage non-standard requests to ensure high-quality service is maintained across all areas of the business
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Occasional domestic or international travel may be requested for training and/or to support customer needs
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: May supervise or oversee the work of employees in the manufacturing, engineering, and/or departments
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 10+ years of direct experience with designing molds and manufacturing equipment
- Hands-on experience in manufacturing setting is required
- Above average proficiency in SolidWorks
- Minimum of associate’s degree or training certificate in tool and die making
- Advanced knowledge of manufacturing processes, fabrication methods and tool design
- Strong understanding of manufacturing equipment and quality assurance techniques
- Project management skills
