Job Summary:
The Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer will develop energy efficiency utility solutions for large scale manufacturing facilities from early concept stage to detail design to take to implementation. You will work in collaboration with other engineers and project managers to allow for the project implementation across industrial manufacturing sites. Utility solutions may include Chillers, Refrigeration, Heat Pumps, Combined Heat & Power, Heat Recovery, HVAC, Steam and Hot Water Systems and process technologies including Utilities Plant Room design.
Job Duties:
- Mechanical design of energy efficiency solutions for large scale manufacturing facilities. This includes systems such as Chillers, Refrigeration, Heat Pumps, Combined Heat & Power, Heat Recovery, HVAC, Steam and Hot Water Systems and process technologies including Utilities Plant/Boiler Room design.
- Identify concept design for energy efficient project opportunities
- Develop basis of design for conceptual and detailed engineering design and bid documents including scope detail, specifications, drawings, cost estimates and schedule planning
- Provide engineering support throughout the project life cycle (sales, proposal, concept, design development, issue for construction IFC, construction, commissioning and operation)
- Ensuring quality design deliverables are produced to allow climate action solutions to be successfully implemented in client sites.
- Building relationships with clients in the Food, Dairy, Pharmaceutical, Bio-pharmaceutical and healthcare industries in Illinois and nationally.
- Managing the performance of the design team on the project to ensure the client metrics for budget, schedule and energy performance are achieved.
- Implement and manage project changes and interventions to achieve project outputs.
- Cultivate and maintain positive business relationships with colleagues, subcontractors, and customers
- Liaising with contractors and technology supply partners that would be integral to large scale industrial energy efficiency projects.
- Prepare and communicate progress reports on the design process.
- Resolve technical challenges as they arise during the design and construction phase of projects.
- Perform other duties as required
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in the design and project implementation of Utilities systems including HVAC, cooling process and refrigeration, steam / hot water, heat pumps and heat recovery, CHP and renewables.
- Ability to travel 25% of the time to client facilities, along with a valid driver’s license.Professional Engineer (PE) License is highly preferred.
- Experience leading design development of medium to large industrial utility projects.
- Knowledge of state and federal building rules and regulations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including technical presentation skills.
