Position Summary:
The Senior Metallurgist will be responsible for designing heat treatment processes, supporting R&D activities and implementing tests to develop new and improve existing heat treatment products, and advising clients on product needs.
Job Requirements:
- Evaluate metallurgical properties of metallic alloys in order to design heat treatment and forging processes for such alloys.
- Implement tests to improve heat treatment practices and ultimate quality of the heat treatment products involved, such as aqueous polymers, quenching oils, and martempering oils.
- Support and participate in global long-term research and development activities to develop novel heat treatment products.
- Collaborate with formulation chemists to match performance properties of heat treatment products with application requirements.
- Assess new and alternative raw materials to enhance product performance and minimize cost; and assist the quality assurance lab in solving quality and production problems.
- Visit client locations in the United States and internationally on an as-needed basis for field testing and to advise clients on product needs, as well as to provide product training, technical support, and quality control.
Education, Experience, Skills & Knowledge:
- Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Material Science or a related field such as Metallurgical or Mechanical Engineering required.
- 7 years of experience, or alternatively, a Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in same and 5 years of experience with the design of heat treatment and forging processes for metallic alloys, and using SIMHEAT simulation software to analyze metallurgical properties of alloys.
- Travel (national/international <5%).
