Job Summary
Skyworks Solutions seeks a Senior Principal Engineer to lead the technology development in MEMS and Piezo MEMS Devices. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Acoustics and EDA Engineering, this leader will set the tone for technical direction in conjunction with business leaders and other divisional engineering leaders to ensure commercial success.
We are seeking an innovative and results-driven Senior Principal Engineer to lead the development and advancement of Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS) technology specifically for timing applications. In this role, you will be responsible for driving MEMS-based timing solutions, such as MEMS oscillators and resonators, to meet the growing demands of industries including telecommunications, consumer electronics, automotive, and IoT. The Senior Principal Engineer of MEMS Technology will work cross-functionally with engineering, product development, and business teams to deliver high-performance, cost-effective solutions that differentiate our products in the global marketplace.
Responsibilities
Technology Leadership
- Lead the MEMS technology roadmap for timing applications, ensuring alignment with company strategy and market needs.
- Oversee the design, development, and optimization of MEMS-based timing devices, including MEMS oscillators and resonators.
- Provide technical guidance on MEMS process development, device architecture, and integration with packaging technologies.
Product Development:
- Collaborate with product management and engineering teams to define product requirements and technical specifications.
- Ensure the successful delivery of MEMS-based timing products from concept through to mass production.
- Coordinate device development, layout, tape-outs to evaluate new structures.
- Establish testing and validation procedures to ensure high-quality product performance and reliability.
Innovation & Research:
- Stay ahead of technological trends, market demands, and competitor offerings in the MEMS and timing industry.
- Drive innovation by identifying new applications for MEMS timing technology in emerging markets, such as 5G, autonomous vehicles, and precision electronics.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with R&D, engineering, manufacturing, and quality assurance teams to ensure the scalability of MEMS products.
- Partner with sales and marketing teams to effectively communicate the value of MEMS-based timing solutions to customers and stakeholders.
- Engage with external partners, universities, and industry consortia to foster collaboration and stay connected to industry advances.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, or related field (Master’s/PhD preferred).
- 10+ years of experience in MEMS technology development, with a focus on timing applications (oscillators, resonators, or related devices).
- Proven experience in managing MEMS product development from concept to high-volume production.
- Deep understanding of MEMS fabrication processes, device physics, packaging, and integration challenges.
- Familiarity with timing standards, precision frequency control, and low-power design considerations.
- Strong leadership and project management skills with the ability to drive cross-functional initiatives.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical information into clear business value for stakeholders.
- Experience in managing external partnerships, suppliers, and contractors is a plus.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in automotive-grade or telecom-grade timing devices.
- Knowledge of piezoelectric materials, CMOS integration, and advanced packaging technologies.
- Background in RF systems and high-precision electronic devices.

The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is currently USD $139,100 - $278,300 per year. Starting base pay will depend on relevant experience and skills, training and education, business needs, market demands, the ultimate job duties and requirements, and work location. Skyworks has different base pay ranges for different work locations in the U.S. Benefits include access to healthcare benefits (including a premium-free medical plan option), a 401(k) plan and company match, an employee stock purchase plan, paid time off (including vacation, sick/wellness, parental leave), among others.
