Capital One is a high-tech company, a scientific laboratory, and a nationally recognized brand reaching tens of millions of consumers. We are a passionate and entrepreneurial team embracing bold ideas, fostering collaboration and delivering great experiences for our customers.
Cloud Operations Resilience Engineering (CORE) is at the heart of our approach. CORE delivers foundational infrastructure and developer tooling that enables Capital One to thrive in the cloud. To further scale our efforts in this space, we are building a world-class Cloud Infrastructure, Reliability, Recovery, and AI/ML data platform for deploying data-driven, resilient, customer-focused solutions in the cloud. This work is core to Capital One’s mission of changing banking for good.
As a Product Manager on the CORE Product team, you will design and deliver best-in-class, innovative, data-driven technology products that delight our customers—Capital One’s engineers, SREs, and other internal stakeholders. We’re passionate about building platform software for the next generation of technologists at Capital One and are looking for someone excited to build tech platforms at scale.
In this role, you will be a Senior Product Manager building observability and monitoring tools that help Capital One’s technologists build and maintain reliable, resilient, and observable applications. You will work with a highly technical internal customer base made up of Capital One’s engineers, operations staff, and SREs across 1,800 software engineering teams; you will collaborate with vendors to influence their roadmap as well as owning the roadmap for internal tools; and you’ll use your technical expertise to guide, influence, and collaborate with builders right across the company.
The ideal candidate is:
Excited by new technology: you use it, you like to learn about it, ideally in your past you built it;
Cloud enthusiast: you have expertise in, or are excited about, cloud services and the future of software development and deployment;
Energized by engineers: you’re in your comfort zone working with engineers, you understand and empathize with their challenges, and can communicate with engineers on their level;
A product-management expert: you enjoy building product strategies and business cases, then drilling down to execution metrics, thoughtfully prioritizing, and delivering;
An excellent communicator: you understand the importance of storytelling, and you enjoy continuously improving your communication skills;
Comfortable working in the gray space: you are comfortable working through ambiguity and change management, and enjoy turning undefined space into a clear vision and execution.
Responsibilities include:
Taking a customer-focused, data-driven approach to defining, executing, and delivering a product roadmap and product strategy.
Contributing to the design of Capital One’s observability and monitoring strategy, and then executing on that strategy to improve our engineer and SRE experience.
Working with highly technical customers of a large platform at the center of the company.
Engaging our engineer customers directly through a variety of channels, serving as the voice of the customer internally, identifying new capabilities, defining product features, and working closely with development teams to get features incorporated.
Working in a cross-functional group - you will work closely with engineering, design, operations, finance, and executive teams to bring a product to life.
Drive the product management practice within the organization, defining expectations and commitments.
Operationalizing product metrics for the products you own and building the business case for new investment.
Influencing senior stakeholders to use our products and sharing the outcomes enabling stronger investment.
