About the Job
Laminar is a clinical stage medical device company advancing transseptal left atrial appendage (LAA) closure. The LAA is a small pouch in the left atrium of the heart that is a major contributor to thromboembolic stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation. It has developmental, ultra-structural, and physiological characteristics distinct from the left atrium proper. Growing incidence of atrial fibrillation and medical device developments have rapidly expanded the market.
Job Profile:
In this role, the R&D Sr. Engineer will be responsible for the design and design and development of a left atrial appendage (LAA) closure system. The engineer will use their technical expertise and problem-solving abilities to design, test, transfer to manufacturing, and support the clinical use of the product. The engineer may also interact with suppliers at various levels to support the design and manufacturing of the product.
Responsibilities:
Technical Design & Development:
• Apply mechanical and biomedical engineering principles to product design and development
• Proactively identify issues and resolve them in a timely manner
• Create and perform experiments to evaluate the design performance
• Write design documents, establish tolerances, and define specifications
• Identify, evaluate and manage external suppliers
• Develop and execute test protocols and write up results
• Understand manufacturing requirements and write work instructions
• Perform bench testing, cadaver studies, animal studies, and potentially support clinical studies
• Conduct failure analysis and provide recommended design improvements
• Cross-functionally collaborate with other functions: Quality, Operations Regulatory, and Clinical
Train, coach, and guide lower-level employees Qualifications:
Required:
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or another related field
- 3 years relevant experience in research, design, and development
- Proven hands-on and technical aptitude for mechanical design, fabrication, and evaluation
- Experience with test method development and documentation
- Complex problem-solving ability
- Proficiency in 3D Solid Modeling and drawing
- Excellent documentation and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Excellent soft skills and works well with others
- Flexible and adaptable - comfortable working in a dynamic environment
Preferred:
- Experience with design of implantable devices and delivery systems
- Proficiency with Solidworks and statistical methods
Expectations:
• On-site position
• Travel about 10-20% of the time
