Senior Research Associate position is immediately available in Dr. Baker/Amado’s laboratory in the Kidney and Urinary Tract Center at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital and The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. Linda Baker, MD, a 23-year NIH-funded physician surgeon scientist, recently joined NCH as Co-Director of and Principal Investigator in The Kidney and Urinary Tract Center and as a Clinical Professor of Urology at The Ohio State University. The Baker lab is using patient-derived and mouse-derived induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, organoids, and single-cell genomics to study the molecular and genetic mechanisms of genitourinary development and congenital birth defects (Nat Commun. 2024, PMID: 38184690).
We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced, and independent Senior Research Associate to join our energetic, diverse and innovative team. We do molecular, cellular, and in vivo work. The ideal candidate will have experience in molecular biology and biochemistry (e.g. molecular cloning, western blotting, qPCR, various in vitro assays, and cell culture), as well as show talent or promise in scientific writing. This person will develop and validate new protocols for in vitro and in vivo experiments and will be responsible for training and directing junior lab members. A strong candidate will also have outstanding organizational skills.

Responsibilities:PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs research experiments independently, with guidance from Linda Baker MD and Nathalia Amado, Ph.D (Sr. Research Scientist).
- Collects and analyzes data in accordance with appropriate statistical procedures
- Maintains an impeccable notebook
- Assists in data analysis, generates study progress reports
- Assists in the preparation of scientific publications and grant proposals
- Coordinates meetings and ensures effective communications with study consultants, co-investigators, and team members
- Prepares study applications for the local regulatory committees, and ensures projects are compliant with federal and institutional policy
- Collaborates with other research team members (at NCH and other research institutions) and provides training/technique support to other staff as needed
- Performs miscellaneous related duties as required
Qualifications
- Master of Science degree with one to two years of laboratory research experience OR Bachelor of Science degree with two to three years of laboratory research experience OR certification and experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.

- Experience in preparation of research grant proposals and scientific publications (encouraged)
MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- 50% Preparing test substrates, conducting assays, preparing cultures
- 25% Interpreting results of data analyses with PI
- 11% Miscellaneous paperwork associated with research
- 10% Ordering supplies
- 02% Preparation of budget
- 02% Instructing other lab personnel Minimum physical requirements:
- 100% Kneeling / reaching 100% Finger dexterity 100% Talking / hearing / seeing 33% Lifting / carrying weight 0-20 pounds for 1-5 minutes
