Job Summary
Reporting to the Technical Director, you will be responsible for assisting laboratory chemists, and internal and external counsels in the management and execution of intellectual property. You will also be responsible to assist in fostering a culture of innovation.

Key Responsibilites
- Manage invention records, assist researchers in writing invention records, and in patent and literature searches; facilitate invention record review and selection for patent applications; identify potential patentable ideas and any possible concerns with third party intellectual property rights.
- Assist researchers and outside patent attorney with patent drafting and claims reviewing; provide interpretations on the technologies of the invention and “prior art.”
- Assist outside patent counsel and inventors in prosecuting patent applications.
- Facilitate communication between Benjamin Moore Product Development and Legal Departments for issues such as NDA’s and contracts.
- Conduct intellectual property training courses for employees and scientists.
- Evaluate and manage research and search tools, evaluate technology mapping as a possible tool to assist innovation.
- Work with PDL teams to identify new areas of R&D through Technology and Market trend sensing, knowledge from patents, literature, and conferences.
- Facilitate the introduction of new technology and technology platforms to Benjamin Moore, work with PDL teams to manage the partnerships with external partners, participate in JDA discussion, monitor the progress.
Required Skills
- Advance degree in Chemistry, Material Science, or a related field
- 5+ years working experience in a Research and Development Lab
- Experience working with Patent Counsels and US patent office in patent drafting and application.
- Knowledge of intellectual property and intellectual property management
- Knowledge and experiences in identifying new technology, and transferring the technology to commercial applications
- Strong communication skills with scientists, PDL managements, Legal and external partners
- Ability to inspire and motivate scientists with new ideas and technology and to foster the culture of innovation.
