Media Engineering builds the software and systems that prepare media content and metadata for the Disney Streaming platform - providing the best possible playback experience to our viewers. We handle audio, video, and metadata content from ingest through publish - for normalization, processing, and packaging - supporting operator tools and automation for a scalable workflow. We build logic across players and back-end services to measure, control, and optimize playback across our stack.
Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology's Metadata Authority Engineering group is seeking a motivated Senior Software Engineer to help build the Content Artwork and Metadata backbone of Disney+ and Hulu streaming services. As a part of this team, you will use technologies like Java, Python, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Kafka, Elasticsearch, Terraform, Docker and native AWS resources such as Lambda, Kinesis, SQS/SNS and DynamoDB.
Responsibilities:
This role involves a range of responsibilities related to software development and management within the Content Metadata domain.
+ Design well-architected solutions and deliver on them with code that is easy to develop and maintain
+ Lead technical design and implementation of new features
+ Participate in project phasing and delivery together with your manager, team lead and Technical Project Managers
+ Identify areas of improvement in our systems and workflows
+ Mentor junior and mid-level engineers
+ Take a user-centric approach to improving our content management systems and data flows
+ Write defensive and robust tests
Basic Qualifications:
+ Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a closely related field
+ 5+ years of software development experience
+ Proficiency in (in order of importance):
+ Java & Python
+ relational databases (MySQL, Postgres)
+ event or pub/sub driven architecture (Kafka, Kinesis)
+ Solid understanding of AWS (Lambda, Kinesis, SQS/SNS, DynamoDB, etc.)
+ Exposure to Machine Learning and Computer Vision
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Experience with Machine Learning and especially Computer Vision is a big plus
The hiring range for this position in Santa Monica, California is $136,100 to $182,400 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
