JOB DESCRIPTION

Experience using design tools such as Figma, Principal, and Miro
Effectively visually communicate and present design vision, research needs, concepts, detailed designs both verbally and visually
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong creative, analytical, and problem-solving, technical judgement, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
Education Required: Bachelor’s degree in UX Design, or related design field with relevant or equivalent experience or known certificate program with related bachelor’s degree
Years’ Experience Required: Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a UX Design role, 2 years’ experience in medical device or related industry preferred. 2 years demonstrated experience in the capacity as a User Experience lead for new product development.

Located in the Medtronic office in the Boston office as a Senior User Interface Designer, you will help to execute User Interface efforts within the User Centered Design team as part of the Systems Center of Excellence, working in a fast-paced environment with a team of human factors engineers. This role will work on exciting, challenging, and fast-paced projects to support the Surgical Operating Unit. Your focus will be on concepting user interface design solutions that align with surgeons’ and surgical staff’s expectations and abilities, with a particular eye towards safety and ease of use. Specifically, this in this position, you will be responsible for maintaining and/or improving user experience reducing usability risks for patients and surgical staff, improving usability workflows, and adhering to our brand guidelines for digital interfaces such as:
Defining the Digital User Interface, implementing the Surgical Operating Unit’s Design system for complex medical devices in the Surgical Operating Unit’s product portfolio.
Participating in research activities to identify user needs/requirements and translating those findings, insights into design solutions.
Participating in decision making on product features and functionality partnering with Product Management, Engineering and the Research & Technology teams.
Working with agile teams to collaborate closely with software engineers, copywriters and UX designers.
Participating in concept definition for new products and platforms using “systems thinking” and user centered design methodologies.
Conceptualizing and visualizing product designs and physical interactions using Figma, mocking up digital prototypes using Figma or Principal.
Creating, and improving wireframes, prototypes, style guides, user flows, as well as effectively communicating your interaction ideas using Figma, Miro and PowerPoint.
Creating detailed final design documentation and support for software engineering handoffs and for design requirements within other shared platforms (Jama, Jira, etc.)
Developing ideas based on design thinking, user research, heuristic principles, and accessibility standards.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned. Creates and refines designs for products and services focused on user interfaces and user experience. Considers technology, platforms, and architecture while applying human-centered techniques in design approaches. Engages in generative design research and the translation of user/customer needs into design concepts. Collaborates with multi-disciplinary teams and facilitates working sessions, brainstorming, design reviews and collaborative design meetings. Documents design language and user interface design.
Technical Specialist Career Stream: An individual contributor with responsibility in our technical functions to advance existing technology or introduce new technology and therapies. Formulates, delivers and/or manages projects assigned and works with other stakeholders to achieve desired results. May act as a mentor to colleagues or may direct the work of other lower level professionals. The majority of time is spent delivering R&D, systems or initiatives related to new technologies or therapies – from design to implementation - while adhering to policies, using specialized knowledge and skills.
