About the Job
All aspects of this innovative media-based study will be done online using web-based apps, social media, and a password protected portal. It is a Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) that will compare the impact of two web-based apps (one app uses Hollywood quality transmedia storytelling videos with interactive features and the other app uses informational videos from national websites) on level of stigma, attitudes, and action taken by symptomatic Latina women over age 18 to seek needed treatment for depression or anxiety. The transmedia videos and app were created through multiple collaborative phases of development with Latinas in English and Spanish. The media features a Latina lead character and a Latina nurse therapist character in a fictional episode with short bonus videos that extend the story by emphasizing themes identified by Latina participants struggling with depression or anxiety in previous research studies. This study stands to make significant contributions to the health of Latinas through desirable story-based videos that are easily accessible through discreet use of smartphone, tablet, or computers.
