Location: Wheat Ridge
Salary: $20 - $26 /hour
Position Summary:
The Project Engineer assists the Project Manager in the successful completion of assigned projects, reporting to the Assistant Branch Manager and working closely with the Project Manager for day-to-day tasks. This role provides hands-on exposure to project management, focusing on estimating, purchasing, production monitoring, safety inspections, and project documentation. As part of their development, Project Engineers will work with the Estimating Department to develop proficiency in job costing and project estimating. The Project Engineer contributes to fostering a positive and collaborative company culture while preparing for future leadership opportunities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Project Comprehension
- Understand project plans, specifications, addendums, and change orders for assigned projects.
- Assist with the preparation of Requests for Information (RFI).
- Monitor productivity and prepare reports for the Project Manager.
- Manage submittals, shop drawings, and prepare “as-built” documents.
- Monitor and update project schedules as directed by the Project Manager.
- Attend project meetings and provide support as needed.
- Assist in change order pricing, confirming field conditions, and identifying schedule impacts.
Estimating
- Assist with purchasing responsibilities by following SSC’s purchasing procedures, including tracking purchase orders and verifying supplier invoices using E-1 and OnBase.
- Approval from the Project Manager is required for all purchases.
- The Project Manager retains ultimate responsibility for processing and approving change orders.
Purchasing
- Assist with purchasing responsibilities by following SSC’s purchasing procedures, including tracking purchase orders and verifying supplier invoices using E-1 and OnBase.
- Approval from the Project Manager is required for all purchases.
Production
- Understand the production goals established by the project team.
- Collaborate with the Field Supervisor/Foreman to monitor production and prepare reports.
- Immediately escalate any production issues to the Project Manager.
Communication
- Maintain accurate and professional communication with clients, vendors, architects, owners, subcontractors, and internal teams.
- Use email, letters, and faxes as needed to communicate project updates and requirements.
- Promote SSC’s “open door” policy by sharing concerns and providing input to resolve issues.
Submittals and Shop Drawings
- Assemble one set of submittal data for each project.
- Upon the Project Manager’s approval, log and forward submittals to the General Contractor for review.
- Handle re-submittals as necessary by gathering data and samples.
- Produce and manage shop drawings as directed by the Project Manager.
Technology Use
- Maintain project plans on the PlanGrid software platform, including setup, updates, and entry of RFIs, construction documents, and control documents.
- Document project progress using OpenSpace software through site walks and issue tracking.
Safety Inspections
- Participate in site safety inspections and submit two safety inspection reports per month.
- Report any safety concerns to the Project Manager for action.
Quality Control
- Always stay familiar with project plans and details.
- Perform weekly site walks to ensure construction details conform to project documents. Be on the lookout for any non-conforming construction details and notify the construction team of any items found.
- Depending on the project, perform quality control inspections and document items that are either in or out of compliance with project specifications.
- Strive to become a preferred contractor by exceeding customer expectations through understanding and enforcing quality standards, participating in the scheduling process, resolving potential crises, and maintaining open, constructive dialogue with clients.

- Ability to establish and maintain strong customer relationships.
- Proficiency in analyzing costs and estimates and making informed decisions.
- A valid driver’s license and safe driving record are required.
- Experience in the construction or industrial access industry preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, E-1, and other relevant software applications.
Travel:
- Out-of-town travel might be required.
