Job Title: Staff Accountant
Job Description
The Staff Accountant will be responsible for a variety of accounting tasks, including heavy monthly account analysis and reconciliation. This role will involve maintaining general ledger procedures, assisting with month-end and year-end close processes, and preparing ad-hoc reports and analyses as required. The Staff Accountant will also identify and implement improvements to current procedures, assist in system implementations, and perform other various duties as assigned. This position requires the ability to meet deadlines, which may include working overtime and/or weekends as necessary. The Staff Accountant must be able to work accurately in a fast-paced environment, communicate effectively across all levels of the organization, and participate in special projects as needed. Adherence to established financial integrity policies, internal accounting controls, and employee handbook policies is mandatory.
Responsibilities
+ Conduct heavy monthly account analysis and reconciliation, including prepaids, fixed assets, intangible assets, liabilities, and equity accounts.
+ Perform various weekly and monthly tasks and general ledger maintenance procedures, such as posting sales.
+ Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
+ Prepare ad-hoc reports and analyses as required.
+ Identify and implement improvements to current procedures.
+ Assist in system implementations and perform other various duties as assigned.
+ Meet deadlines, which may include availability for overtime and/or weekend work.
+ Produce accurate work in a fast-paced environment.
+ Communicate effectively among all levels of the organization.
+ Participate in special projects as needed.
+ Adhere to established financial integrity policies and internal accounting controls.
+ Maintain financial security and confidentiality by following internal accounting controls.
+ Follow policies and procedures set forth in the employee handbook at all times.
Essential Skills
+ Proficient in account analysis and reconciliation.
+ Experience in general ledger maintenance and month-end close processes.
+ Ability to prepare journal entries and accruals.
+ Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, with high Excel skills.
+ Ability to read, analyze, and interpret government regulations.
+ Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
+ Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, employees, or clients.
+ Ability to calculate and analyze figures and amounts, and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
+ BS degree in Accounting from a 4-year university.
+ Two to three years of accounting experience preferred.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Retail experience is highly preferred, with a preference for grocery sector experience.
+ Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
+ Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
