ECU Health Duplin Hospital is an 81-bed facility located in Kenansville, North Carolina. The 15-bed emergency department serves approximately 25,000 patients per year. In addition to providing general medical and surgical services, ECU Health Duplin Hospital offers chemotherapy and other cancer infusion interventions and has earned national designation as a Primary Stroke Center.
Position Summary
The Staff Accountant creates and keys journal entries, reconciles and maintains records of daily cash receipts, and compiles all statistics in the Accounting department. As a member of the team in the Accounting department, a Staff Accountant performs all activities according to the general accepted accounting principles. Staff Accountant enters all cash receipts, statistics, and journal entries into the PeopleSoft system located in the Accounting department. Staff Accountant is back-up for the Accounts Payable Clerk and Payroll Clerk when required. The primary customer base for Staff Accountant is outside vendors, intra-company contacts and associated affiliates. Staff Accountant is required to provide quality, efficient information on a timely basis, maintain a working knowledge of accounting regulatory requirements and guidelines, assist with audits, and assist Controller when needed with both routine processes and special projects.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to independently provide service appropriate to the client.
- Uses departmental scripts and/or guidelines to effectively communicate with outside contacts, other departments, and coworkers in person and over the phone.
- Incorporates current generally accepted accounting principles appropriately to practice.
- Demonstrates effective computer skills for all Accounting functions.
- Demonstrates competency and efficiency when entering cash receipts, statistics, and journal entries.
- Provides assistance to all Leadership as it relates to Departmental Responsibility Reports.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
- Assist with audits as requested by Controller or Internal Audit.
- Participates in all education and/or safety requirements.
- Demonstrates safe operation of all equipment in compliance with departmental policy, safety, infection control, and quality control standards.
- Uses safety behaviors to ensure accuracy.
- Participates in In-service education, updates, and conferences to remain current on all accounting principles.
- Actively participates in Action Team of your choosing.
- Uses universal precautions and performs proper hand washing according to infection control guidelines.
Minimum Requirements
- Four year degree in Accounting is required.
- Three years of experience is required.
- Experience in computer data entry required.
- Proficient in using spreadsheet applications, preferably in Excel.
