We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Staff Accountant to join our accounting team. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter providing essential support to the Diagnostic Solutions Business Unit by performing various accounting tasks, maintaining accurate financial records, and ensuring efficient financial operations. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication and problem-solving skills, and a solid understanding of basic accounting principles including US GAAP. This position reports to the Director of Finance, DSBU.
What You Will Do
- Accounting:
- Accurately enter financial data into accounting systems.
- Maintain and update financial records, including ledgers, journals, and spreadsheets.
- Assist with journal entries.
- Ensure all data is accurate, complete, and up to date.
- Process invoices, expense reports, and other financial documents.
- Reconcile vendor and customer statements and resolve any discrepancies.
- Accurately apply customer payments.
- Process timely payment of vendor invoices.
- Prepare Bank Reconciliations.
- Reconcile Ledger accounts and investigate discrepancies.
- Financial Reporting:
- Prepare weekly cash and revenue reports.
- Assist in the preparation of month-end financial reports and statements.
- Compile data for month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Help with the analysis of financial data and identify trends or discrepancies.
- Compliance and Audits:
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Assist in the preparation of documents for audits.
- Maintain confidentiality of financial information.
- Reconciliation and remittance of sales tax
Who You Are & What You Bring
Education and Experience:
- Post-Secondary Diploma or Degree in Accounting or related field
- 3-5 years experience in an accounting function (Manufacturing industry an asset)
- Experience with ERP system (Microsoft D365 experience an asset)
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
- Thorough understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
- Strong Excel Skills
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to manage tight deadlines
- Ability to build relationships at all levels of the organization
