Job Summary
The Staff Accountant will be responsible for assisting in preparing journal entries, reconciliations and other financial reports. Responsibilities also include executing everyday accounting processes and transactions in support of the Accounting Manager. The ideal candidate will have the ability to work as part of a team in a deadline driven environment, be able to multi-task, and be comfortable taking directions and working independently.
Role and Responsibilities
To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and should demonstrate the following competencies to consistently perform the essential functions of this position. All employees are expected to adhere to and be knowledgeable of Orion180 operations standards, established security/safety rules and requirements for attendance. The requirements listed below are representative of the fundamental knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform the job successfully:
- Document financial transactions in the general ledger.
- Assist in preparation of current financial status by collecting information, preparing balance sheet, profit and loss statement and other reports.
- Substantiate financial transactions by auditing documents.
- Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information.
- Verify, allocate, post, and reconcile transactions.
- Produce error-free accounting reports for review.
- Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures.
- Provide input into the department’s goal setting process.
- Support month-end and year-end close process.
- Develop and document business processes to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
- Communicate effectively with agencies and insureds on refunds or commissions.
- Contribute to a strong client relationship through positive interactions with client personnel.
- Communicate with Manager on work status and issues that may arise.
Qualifications, Experience & Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting
- Minimum of (4) three years accounting experience or equivalent knowledge
- Insurance industry experience not required but preferred.
Preferred Skills
- Ability to work with minimal supervision in a team-oriented environment.
- Must be self-directed and able to meet deadlines.
- Highly computer literate with advanced Excel skills.
- Strong technical accounting skills with core knowledge of internal controls and US GAAP.

Physical Demands
While performing general office duties for this position, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand and/or walk around (including the use of stairs). Other demands include the ability to openly communicate with others by talking, listening, and reading, able to lift light objects (<25lbs), and use standard office equipment such as computer, printer, and phone. In addition, there is an occasional need to bend, twist or stoop to open/close cabinets, reach for files or other standard office type objects.

The office environment fast paced and collaborative. An employee must be willing to work their regularly assigned work schedule, and in times of need, be able to work an extended schedule depending on company or departmental needs, project requirements, or customer demands.
