You are the professional Staff Accountant - Payroll Assistant we are looking for. You will be responsible for assisting with the preparation of monthly financial reports, participating in month end close activities, preparing journal entries, performing monthly account reconciliations, assisting in billing and tracking various grants, expense reporting and various other general ledger activities. This Staff Accountant - Payroll Assistant also assists with payroll functions, and is responsible to record, maintain, and check/balance time cards, as well as compiles payroll data including deductions, taxes, incentive earnings, overtime, paid time off (PTO), and holiday pay. The Staff Accountant - Payroll Assistant will also support the Controller on various projects as deemed necessary.

Staff Accountant - Payroll Assistant Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare monthly account reconciliations and journal entries pertaining to the month-end close process
- Evaluate and implement appropriate policies and internal controls.
- Assist with audits and audit preparation
- Support all functions of the Accounting department including Purchasing, A/P, A/R, Treasury, etc.
- Completes payroll entry, employee verifications and ADP requirements for bi-weekly payroll.
- Maintains ADP database that contains benefit plan participation, personnel changes, performance bonuses, terminations, and other employee data used for wage and labor statistics.
- Responds to employee and vendor inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs as they relate to the payroll function (PTO, professional development, FMLA, expense reporting, timekeeping, taxes, withholdings, etc.).
- Ensures that all court orders for garnishments are communicated to employees and information is relayed to the payroll system. Also, responds to court interrogatories and social security questionnaires as needed.
- Performs other duties that may be assigned.
We Value Your Staff Accountant - Payroll Assistant Experience and Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field with a minimum of 2 years accounting experience; Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Accounting or related field with at least 5 years of relevant experience can be substituted for Bachelor’s degree.
- 1 to 2 years of payroll related experience, including payroll input/processing, reporting, reconciliation, taxes and benefits.
- Advanced knowledgeable in Excel.
