Description:KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Staff Clinician/Alcohol & Other Drug (AOD) Specialist will provide generalist psychotherapy services (in-person and via telehealth) for a diverse student population, with specific knowledge, experience, and interest in substance misuse. The AOD Specialist will be responsible for the diagnostic assessment, crisis support and intervention, and brief goal-oriented individual, couples/relationship, and group counseling for a range of psychological and developmental concerns, specifically for substance misuse related concerns. Participates in the general functions of a multidisciplinary and multifaceted university counseling center (initial assessment, individual & couples brief goal-oriented therapy, consultation/on-call, outreach, and providing supervision and training). Works closely with the Assistant Director for Substance Misuse Prevention in the Emory University Center for Student Wellbeing to provide clinical expertise and partnership in service of substance misuse prevention and support across campus. Serves on campus-wide committees as appropriate, and will consult with and refer to campus partners and/or community-based agencies/providers to provide collaborative and integrated care.
Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is a part of the Health, Wellbeing, Access, and Prevention portfolio which includes the Center for Student Wellbeing, Office of Respect, and Student Health Services.
Essential Functions:
- Provides culturally responsive, comprehensive, high-quality, evidenced-based individual, couples/relationship, and group psychotherapy to a diverse student body. Provides crisis intervention, assessments, brief interventions, counseling, treatment, and consultation in individual and group modalities to undergraduates, graduates, and professional students presenting with a varying clinical concerns, and those who have been mandated or voluntarily seeking services for substance use related concerns.
- Participates in a rotating on-call schedule as needed for after-hours consultation related to student urgent mental health needs.
- Develops, implements, monitors, and modifies substance misuse related clinical treatment plans that reflect evidence-based interventions that can be accomplished in a short/brief goal-oriented treatment model.
- Collaborates with the Assistant Director for Substance Misuse Prevention in the Emory Center for Student Wellbeing to support the strategic planning and implementation of initiatives and programs related to prevention, education, and assessment of campus alcohol and other drug misuse.
- Plans and facilitates treatment coordination and communication as needed, with campus partners (e.g., Student Health Services, Office of Respect, Center for Student Wellbeing), and external agencies (e.g. inpatient) to ensure students are receiving the appropriate level of care based on presenting concerns.
- Serves as a resource for CAPS' staff substance use/abuse issues.
- Builds and fosters relationships that facilitate CAPS' development and provision of services in the area of substance use.
- Nurtures connections between CAPS and relevant constituencies in this area.
- Adheres to agency standards regarding case management, documentation, and scope of services.
- Participates as an active and engaged member of the team, including: staff meetings, multicultural seminars, case conference, professional development, and other organizational meetings; consults appropriately with colleagues and supervisors and campus partners.
- Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in counseling, social work, psychology, or related field from an accredited program, and two years of full-time experience providing alcohol and other drug assessments and interventions.
- Licensed or licensed eligible in the state of Georgia and must obtain license no later than 12 months after the start date. Certification in substance abuse treatment (e.g., CAADC, CSAC, etc.) within 6 months after the start date.
- Professional and demonstrated commitment to multicultural humility and delivery of clinical experiences with diverse populations.
- Strong interpersonal skills are required to interact well with students, medical and professional personnel, faculty, and other members of the university community.

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
