Position Description
As a machine supervisor at Applied Medical, you will play a pivotal role in driving the success of the CNC machining department, contributing to the achievement of production targets, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. This position requires a combination of technical expertise, leadership skills, and a focus on continuous improvement to meet production goals, maintain quality standards, and optimize workflow. Key Responsibilities:
- Operational Leadership: Provide leadership and direction to the CNC machining team, ensuring adherence to production schedules, quality standards, and safety protocols.
- Team Management: Oversee the day-to-day activities of CNC machinists, including task assignment, workload distribution, and performance management.
- Process Improvements: Identify opportunities to improve machining processes, such as updating machine parameters, perform efficiency studies, and capacity analysis.
- Communication and Collaboration: Foster open communication and collaboration within the department and with other departments to coordinate workflow, resolve issues, and achieve organizational goals.
- Adherence to Policies: Ensure adherence to Applied Quality Systems (QS) including SOP's, MI's, QI's, TM's, engineering drawings and shop order operations and sequence.
Performance Objectives:
Within 60 days:
- Review process documentation and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Shadow experienced team members to observe and learn about day-to-day operations and learn the production and machine processes.
- Systems, Applications, and Products in Data Processing (SAP) training encompassing both practical, hands-on experience and computer-based instruction.
- Conduct a thorough review of current machining processes and identify opportunities for improvement to enhance efficiency, productivity, and quality.
- Observe, interact, and build relationships with the team.
- Address any immediate issues or challenges within the CNC machining department, implement solutions to minimize disruptions, and improve operational efficiency.
Within 90 days to one year:
- Successfully lead the pre-shift meeting by clearly communicating the day's machining goals, and key priorities, ensuring that all team members are well-informed and aligned.
- Strengthen cross-departmental collaboration initiatives, foster stronger relationships with other departments, and identify opportunities for process integration and optimization.
- Lead a team hands on and provide assistance on the machines when needed.
- Demonstrate knowledge of KPIs and drive improvement projects.
Position Requirements
- High school graduate, General Education (GED) or relevant work equivalent.
- 3+ years working in a machine shop, preferably with Spring Forming and/or Stamping machines, such as FMU 16, FMU 23, Bruderer, BSTA 510, BSTA 810, or Saga.
- Ability to perform advanced troubleshooting of CNC machines.
- Proven leadership, direction, training, and coordination in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work on a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift.
- Ability to ensure adherence to Applied Quality Systems (QS) including SOP's, MI's, QI's, TM's, engineering drawings and shop order operations and sequence.
Preferred
- Work flexible and extended hours as needed.
- Exceptional attention to detail to ensure the highest quality of finished products.
- Willingness to explore innovative machining techniques and technologies.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changes in machining processes or technology.
- Experience with any of the following machines including Star, Citizen, Deco, Makino, and/or Matsuura.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
