Overview:
The NYS Department of Financial Services is seeking a motivated and analytically driven Statistical Assistant to join the newly formed Enterprise Data Governance team within the Research & Innovation Division. This highly visible role will report directly to the Deputy Superintendent, Data Governance and Management. The position is crucial in driving the transformation of data, business processes, and practices within Client, in alignment with the overall enterprise-wide strategy. The Statistical Assistant will collaborate with Business Units, the enterprise Data Governance team, and Technology, among others.
Job Duties:
- Compile and compute data according to statistical formulas for use in data analysis and/or statistical studies.
- Perform actuarial computations and compile charts and graphs for use by actuaries.
- Prepare business analytics and assist in preparing data governance metrics and reporting.
- Conduct research and analysis of data at Client, including definitions, usage, system flows, and identifying key challenges and opportunities.
- Assist in the preparation of reports as needed.
- Assist with the administration of governance forums as needed.
- Develop documentation, including reference guides, how-to documents, summaries, reports, and meeting minutes.
- Collaborate closely with data stakeholders across Client to drive decision-making processes and facilitate discussions to resolve conflicting viewpoints and reach mutually satisfactory agreements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education:
- A Bachelor's Degree in one of the following fields: accounting, actuarial sciences, auditing, banking, business, business administration, business and technology, commerce, computer science, cyber security, econometrics, economics, finance, financial administration, information systems, information systems engineering, information technology, internal controls, data management, data science, computational sciences, statistics, market analysis, mathematics, public administration, public policy, risk management, taxation, or technology.
Work Experience:
Four (4) or more years of financial services experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Data Analysis
- Data Governance or Data Management
- Business Analytics
- Data Visualization
- Statistical or Economic Analysis
- Data and/or Information Security
- Data Quality
- Metrics and Reporting
- Internal Controls and Process Re-engineering
- Financial Risk Management
- Auditing
Substitutions:
- A J.D. or a Master's Degree may substitute for one (1) year of specialized experience.
- A Ph.D. may substitute for two (2) years of specialized experience.
Preferred Skills:
- Strong analytical and statistical skills.
- Experience in compiling and computing data for statistical studies.
- Proficiency in business analytics and data governance metrics.
- Excellent research and data analysis capabilities.
- Ability to prepare comprehensive reports and documentation.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills.
- Familiarity with data governance principles and practices.
- Proficiency in data visualization tools and techniques.
- Knowledge of financial services industry standards and regulations.
Miscellaneous Information:
- Standard shift: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, averaging 37.5-40 hours per week.
- Once onboarded, Client has a 50% telecommuting policy in place.
- Successful candidates will undergo a background check and fingerprinting.
- Interviews will be conducted via Microsoft Teams.
- Client does not provide parking, but the office is accessible by bus or subway.
