Department Summary:The UCLA International Education Office (IEO) is the student destination for all things study abroad. The IEO offers a complete range of services for UCLA and visiting international students who wish to study abroad. Our team of study abroad advisors and program coordinators counsel students on academic, cultural and financial issues.Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Associate Director, deliver academic and programmatic advising and support to students on an array of international and a few domestic off-campus academic programs offered within and outside the IEO (International Education Office) pre-departure, while abroad, and upon their return. Support students in navigating study abroad in relation to diverse identities and backgrounds. Develop and maintain knowledge of offerings with a strong emphasis on the type of study abroad experience, application, finances, and academic credit. Interpret and apply academic, administrative, and financial aid policies in relation to program participation. Liaise with UCEAP (University of California Education Abroad Program) regarding the advisor's programmatic portfolio and in any special representative roles. Assess UCEAP applicant eligibility and process applications accordingly. Create, improve, and facilitate outreach programming to promote IEO study abroad opportunities as well as to support underrepresented and underserved student populations in study abroad. Actively and continuously, assess and contribute to current administrative and advising practices and resources. Consult with Associate Director on nonconforming tasks, initiatives, and issues, including student cases, collaborations, and processes. Take the lead on representative roles and recurring projects that align with the needs and goals of the IEO and where possible with the advisor's own professional interests. Assists with other IEO initiatives as needed.

Experience having lived abroad. (Required) Experience in study abroad field and university administrative policies, procedures, resources, and support services. (Preferred) 1. Skill in employing fundamental counseling techniques to communicate in a sensitive and supportive manner to assist students in making problem-related decisions in crisis situations and times of stress. (Required)2. Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person, through electronic and virtual media, and in writing, to students, faculty, administrators, and partners from diverse backgrounds, representing the University in a professional and accurate manner. (Required)3. Skill in using a variety of interpersonal communications skills to interact appropriately and diplomatically with a diverse group of individuals. (Required)4. Ability to comprehend and organize a wide variety of statistical data in a clear and effective manner to deliver concise in-person and virtual presentations to small and large groups of students, faculty, and administrators. (Required)5. Ability to analyze a problem, define its possible causes, consult others as needed, and negotiate or suggest courses of action to assist students and faculty in solving individual or mutual concerns. (Required)6. Organizational skills to maintain accurate student databases and files, preserve their confidentiality, and create reports as needed or requested. (Required)7. Ability to work independently, follow through on assignments, and complete assignments with minimal supervision and frequent interruptions. (Required)8. Proficiency in office suite applications including Microsoft Office, G Suite, survey applications (SurveyMonkey, Qualtrics, Google forms) and collaborative software (e.g., Slack, Teams, Skype, Trello). (Preferred)9. Ability and willingness to develop proficiency in new innovative tools, methods, and technologies to improve processes, increase collaboration, and deliver better student services. (Required)10. Proficiency in at least one other language. (Preferred)Education, Licenses, Certifications, & Professional Affiliations:
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and professional experience, with 1-3 years of related job experience.
