Ellis Early Learning (formerly known as Ellis Memorial) is a vibrant, Boston-based nonprofit with a rich history founded in 1885. Ellis provides high-quality early education and care for infants, toddlers, and preschool children. Ellis is among the most socio-economically, racially, and culturally diverse organizations serving children in Boston. Through a partnership with Boston Public Schools, it operates four high-performing community-based K-1 classrooms. POSITION OVERVIEW: We seek a dynamic and innovative Early Childhood STEAM Facilitator to develop and lead engaging STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) activities for children aged 1-5 in our two STEM exploration labs. The ideal candidate will create developmentally appropriate activities that foster curiosity, creativity, and foundational skills, while also promoting early cognitive development, problem-solving, and a love for learning. This position is part-time, roughly equivalent to two days per week. We are able to offer a competitive hourly rate.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and deliver developmentally appropriate STEAM sessions for young children in our Ellis STEM labs(sessions are 30-mintutes with groups of 4-8 children).
- Encourage children's curiosity and creativity through playful exploration of the world around them.
- Use a variety of teaching tools, including magnet walls, simple robotics, sensory play materials, multi-directional wind tunnels, and light labs.
- Foster an inclusive, safe, and supportive classroom environment that encourages all children to participate.
- Collaborate with other teachers and staff to ensure that STEAM activities align with overall early learning goals and curricula.
- Communicate regularly with program leadership to share student progress and offer suggestions for supporting STEAM learning in the classroom and at home.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years' experience working with young children (ages 1-5) in an educational setting
- Bachelor's degree required, Certification in Early Childhood Education preferred
- Experience with Early Childhood STEAM activities, programs, or curriculums.
- Familiarity with KIBO robotics preferred
- Culturally humble and sensitive to working with diverse populations
- Sound personal judgment, initiative, resourcefulness, and a positive attitude
- Familiarity with STEAM education principles and techniques for young learners.
- Ability to create a nurturing, fun, and stimulating learning environment.
- Excellent communication skills with children and adults.
- Creativity and enthusiasm for teaching in innovative ways.
