Job Title:                     Stem Lab Educational Assistant

Contract Length:        181 days

FLSA Status:               Non-exempt

Job Summary

As a STEM lab Educational Assistant, your role will be to support the effective delivery of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education in a laboratory setting. You will assist students with hands-on learning experiences, experiments, and projects, and ensure smooth operation of the lab.

Essential Duties

Lab Preparation and Setup:

• Collaborate with the general education teacher to plan and prepare lab activities, experiments, and demonstrations.
• Set up lab equipment, materials, and supplies required for each experiment or project.

Assistance during Lab Sessions:

• Assist students in understanding and following lab procedures, safety guidelines, and ethical practices.
• Answer questions, clarify concepts, and guide students through experimental procedures.
• Troubleshoot technical issues with equipment or software as needed.

Safety and Risk Management:

• Promote a culture of safety by enforcing lab safety rules and protocols.
• Monitor students’ activities to ensure compliance with safety guidelines and intervene when necessary.
• Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Lab Maintenance and Inventory Management:

• Assist in the inventory management of lab materials.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities Required)

• Must hold at least an Associated Degree or successful test results on the ParaPro Assessment
• Demonstrate basic reading, writing, and computation skills.
• Have previous experience working with groups of children.
• Have good physical and emotional health.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors, and on the telephone; physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds; and to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead.
