You would be maintaining a sterile environment for surgery as well as contribute to and learn from a team of medical professionals in our surgery center in downtown Reno. What would you do as a Sterile Processing Technician?
The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for collecting, sterilizing, and packaging surgical instrumentation in a safe and efficient manner to help provide quality patient care. You can expect to regularly:
- Gather all contaminated instruments and supplies and return to sterile processing;
- Decontaminate all equipment and instruments using proper tools and cleaning agents;
- Identify frequently used instruments and equipment and ensure those items are prioritized during sterile processing to meet surgical schedule requirements;
- Assemble trays and package instruments and equipment properly;
- Monitor sterility dates of supplies;
- Deliver items to the operating room as requested;
- Ensure proper operation and perform general maintenance of sterilizer units and instruments daily and report any visible signs of malfunction;
- Run biological and chemical tests of sterilization equipment daily and record results in appropriate log;
- Perform cleaning and restocking of department surface areas, racks, case carts, shelves, storage cabinets and all storage area;
- Assist with data collection, recordkeeping and any other clerical work related to the department.
Requirements
- Certifications/Education
- High School Diploma or GED;
- Knowledge of
- General, basic sterilization and cleaning techniques;
- Experience
- Reviewing work and checking for errors.
Preferred Qualifications - How can you set yourself apart from other applicants?
- One year of sterile processing/instrument technician experience;
This position operates in a clinical environment. Exposure to communicable diseases, biohazards, toxic substances, and similar conditions is possible.
