BASIC FUNCTION
The Nursing Assistant is responsible for the most direct care of the nursing home resident. He/she will observe the residents and report any changes in condition to the Shift Charge Nurse. Nursing Assistants will aide residents with Activities of Daily Living and related non-professional services in caring for the personal, comfort and nursing care needs of the residents.
RESPONSIBLE TO: Charge Nurse, Assistant Director of Nursing, Director of Nursing
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Provide a safe and clean environment for each resident
- Answer call lights promptly
- Keep fresh water at the resident’s bedside and offer fluids frequently and as needed.
- Report any changes in the resident’s condition to the charge nurse
- Must be polite and considerate to all residents and their visitors at all times.
- Attend mandatory in-services and ensure that your 12 hours of in-service are met each year to maintain your STNA certification.
- Maintain residents ADLs such as; making beds, measure intake and output, record meal percentages, offer snacks, serve and remove food trays, feed and assist residents with meals, provide all toileting needs, assist in transfers and ambulation, mouth care, bed baths, showers and other personal hygiene.
- Must complete all documentation
- Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of teamwork and team concept.
- Must be able to read, write and speak English
- Must be State Tested in the state of Ohio
- Must demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents
- Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
- Must wear uniform, which includes- uniform, gait belt and nametag
- Must keep nails short, clean and trimmed
- Maintain the use of PPE
- Must maintain isolation when required
Complete other duties as directed by the charge nurse, ADON, DON
