Stormwater Management Inspector/Trainer - Thompson Engineering

About the Job
Thompson Engineering is looking for a Stormwater / CEI II Inspector in our Ridgeland, MS office. Inspectors document construction projects and inspect job activities to verify they are in compliance with project plans and specifications, including storm water permits, storm water pollution prevention plans (SWPPPs), and erosion control plans (ECPs). The inspector will be responsible for completing a daily report documenting the labor and equipment used by the contractor to include a description of the work performed, log quantities of BMPS installed by contractor, and any pertinent conversations with the contractor. The inspector will assist with office work, as needed and report directly to the Storm Water Team Leader and Project Manager.
Essential Functions of the Position
- Inspect work in progress to ensure conformance with plans and specifications, storm water permits, SWPPPs and ECPs
- Inspect workmanship of finished installations for conformity to standards
- Maintains required reports of construction storm water inspection activities
- Prepares sketches of construction and BMP installations that deviate from plans and incorporates changes into master plans
- Inspects and test materials incorporated into the project.
- Interprets specifications as related to materials and workmanship
- Drives company vehicle safely to and from worksites.
Other Responsibilities
- Conduct all work activities in compliance with Thompson Holdings, Inc. Health, Safety & Environmental Management System, safety policies & procedures, safety execution plans and Job Safety and Environmental Analyses.
- Attend and pro-actively participate in monthly safety meetings, project toolbox safety meetings and safety moments.
- Ensures on time and regular attendance
- Other duties as required
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Four year degree in Civil Engineering preferred.
- Five (5) years experience in construction inspection, or a combination of experience and education in a related field of study.
- MDOT construction experience preferred.
- Ability to be certified in Mississippi for Concrete, Roadway Technician, Earthworks, MUTCD, and MDOT Storm Water Inspection.
- ACI Certification preferred.
- Intermediate math and geometry skills in order to calculate areas, volume, etc.
- Valid Driver's License.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in the outside elements of the field up to 100% of the time
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50lbs
- Required to remain standing for a minimum of eight (8) hours per day
- Must be able to bend, stoop and climb on a ladder
- Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing
- Ability to drive a company vehicle to and from job sites
