Street Outreach Housing Specialist - Integrated Services of Kalamazoo

What You Will Be Doing

Working full-time as a Street Outreach Housing Specialist you will provide street outreach to individuals with co-occurring, severe, and persistent mental illness and/or substance abuse disorders who are homeless. You will be responsible for the delivery of appropriate services/supports to individuals in order to transition individuals from homelessness to housing. As a street outreach and housing specialist, you will be working with a street outreach team across seven counties. You will network with other agencies in efforts to use community resources to house individuals staying in places not meant for human habitation. In this role you will be responsible for maintaining a case load and meeting with participants on a regular basis.

What We Require

High School diploma or GED with at least two years of work experience in combination with lived experience navigating mental health resources and/or services to benefit those with mental health, developmental, or behavioral challenges; experience in Community Mental Health or transitional housing setting is preferred. Basic computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, database management, e-mail and grant reporting. Valid Michigan driver's license and personal transportation required.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

Physical Efforts – Job demands include prolonged sitting and standing as appropriate. May occasionally require light lifting up to 25 pounds, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or bending as appropriate. Requires coordination of hands and/or eye/hand/foot.

Working Conditions – Office environment with noise from computers, copy machine, and telephones. Use of computer screen for periods in excess of 30 minutes at a time. Possible eyestrain from extended periods of viewing computer screen. May be exposed to bloodborne pathogens, infectious diseases, and parasites. Travel throughout the Kalamazoo area is required.
