Structural Analyst

Job Description:
The Structural Analyst will be responsible for conducting comprehensive structural assessments across the full product lifecycle, from new design concepts to in-service operations. This role involves utilizing advanced analytical and experimental techniques to address customer issues, ensuring mechanical integrity under various load conditions, including static, transient, and dynamic scenarios. You will also support and mentor junior personnel and contribute to the development of innovative engineering solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Structural Assessments: Perform system-level structural assessments, including Whole Engine Modeling, static and dynamic analysis.
- Experimental Testing: Plan and interpret experimental tests, correlating simulation results with experimental data to validate and refine models.
- Team Collaboration: Facilitate effective teamwork across multiple disciplines such as manufacturing, quality, engineering, and product support.
- Technical Communication: Prepare and present technical reports and business results to senior engineers, both within Rolls-Royce and externally.
- Review Participation: Engage in technical reviews, Product Safety Reviews, Technical Life Reviews, and Customer Reviews.
- Process Improvement: Actively contribute to the continual improvement of engineering methods and processes.
Required Qualifications:
- Education:
- Associate’s degree in Engineering with 4+ years of experience, or
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 2+ years of related experience, or
- Master’s degree in Engineering, or
- JD/PhD
- Citizenship: Must be a US Citizen or permanent resident.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience with ANSYS, Workbench, and APDL.
- Experience with thin-walled aerospace structures is preferred.
- Background in gas turbine engineering.
- Proficiency in steady-state and modal analysis.
- Experience with crack propagation analysis.
- Testing experience, including strain gauge placement, reading, and postprocessing.
- Skills:
- Familiarity with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) codes such as Nastran, Ansys, Dyna3D, NX, and internal Rolls-Royce codes.
- Exposure to experimental testing and data interpretation, particularly for vibrating structures.
- Ability to quickly grasp mechanical integrity topics like Whole Engine Modeling, rotordynamics, and extreme event assessments (e.g., bird strike, fan blade off).
- Programming skills in languages such as Matlab, Python, Fortran, Java, C, C++, with an interest in automating or scripting analysis tasks.
