About the Job
Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Designs buildings and components as required utilizing programs and engineering standards and practices.*
2. Updates design programs as building codes change to ensure compliance.*
3. Assists estimators as necessary for special steel requirements that the estimator cannot design.*
4. Prepares analysis comparison of design vs. estimate to predict profitability of job.*
5. Assists drafting as necessary to clarify design and details needed to complete drawings.*
6. Represents the company with the highest professional and ethical standards in dealing with internal and external customers.*
7. Prepares estimates when work load in Estimating Department requires it.*
8. Keeps current with codes, construction methods and materials system design programs and recommends changes as necessary.*
9. Travels to job sites to investigate potential, existing design problems or concerns.

Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university in Engineering; and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Ability:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Language abilities are required in the English language.
Math Ability:
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word; Microsoft Excel; design software; internet software; order processing systems and AutoCAD Drafting Programs.
Specialized Training:
Ability to be a registered Professional Engineer when experience requirements are met and must be able to pass the E.I.T. and P.E. exams with a timeframe appropriate for prior years of experience within the engineering field.
