- Responsible for the training and overseeing of the work of other engineers. Prepares primary
- layout of structural framing schemes, analyzes structure and design, performs calculations to
- check accuracy of overall dimensions and other issues related to the structural design. May
- oversee the work of Engineers and designers working on a project team.
- Responsible for workability of structural framing schemes and for the quality of the design work including drawings and calculations.
- The Structural Engineer works under the direction of the Structural Engineering Department Manager.
- The Structural Engineer is the most senior Engineer in the Structural Department.
- The Structural Engineer may at times work as a member of a project team or independently to plan and organize the structural engineering work on a project and to check the quality of all drawings and calculations to ensure satisfaction of the client's requirements.
- The Structural Engineer must be knowledgeable regarding company design and drawing standards, understand the project design criteria and be familiar with reference materials and codes used by structural engineers in performing the work.
- The individual in this position provides leadership for the project team when necessary and also must have the ability to work as a member of the team providing professional expertise as required.
- The Structural Engineer may be required to visit job sites to verify work-ability of structural framing schemes and load paths.
- Field inspections require the capability of climbing ladders and stairs, walking on uneven terrain, kneeling, bending and stooping to examine progress and status of the work at the project.
- The position requires proficient use of computers, calculators and other engineering tools and may require lengthy periods of time performing and checking calculations and computer drawings. Lifting on the job is generally limited no more than 30 lbs.
- Professional, quality results in this position require good analytical skills with strong attention to detail, ability to perform abstract calculations with commitment to accuracy. Good coordination and communication skills to gain cooperation between departments is essential to ensure efficient and accurate preparation of drawings according to project specifications.
- Develops overall sketches/plans needed to prepare Structural Concept Drawings for the project; communicates concepts to staff who will be preparing detailed drawings.
- Performs accurate calculations of structural loads and specifications of the structures that meet project requirements. Structures include: framing, beams, columns, bracing, foundations, piers, piles, footings and other required structures.
- Assists in the preparation of capital cost estimates.
- Develops designs and makes calculations to verify workability of structural details; uses AutoCAD to produce accurate, professional drawings.
- Communicates with Project Manager regarding the scope and tasks of the project;
- communicates with Department Manager to keep him informed about work status, workload,
- progress of the work, and engineering budget.
- Uses reference materials for steel and concrete codes as well as other reference material used by engineers to accomplish tasks.
- Attends project planning and progress meetings to contribute professional expertise and to participate as a member of project teams.
- Uses reference materials as necessary and as useful in completing engineering tasks; constantly updates knowledge of technology and advancement in the field to keep abreast of new developments, methods and procedures.
- May assist in field work inspections and surveying as assigned; performs other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Structural Department Manager.
- Assists in marketing company expertise and services.
- Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Structural/Civil Engineering; PE; Master's degree helpful.
- Minimum of 15 years in professional position with leadership/supervisory responsibility.
- Minimum of 10 - 15 years of experience in cement, lime or other industrial minerals.
- Knowledge and ability to perform calculations quickly and accurately.
- Familiar with AutoCad Revit 3D and Navisworks Software or the ability to learn this software.
- Familiarity with reference materials and where/how to find information needed in professional work.
- Excellent communication skills with ability to coordinate work with other staff members.
- Strong organization skills to effectively manage time and resources in the most efficient manner.
- Commitment to maintaining the company's professional image and reputation with error free work.
